Sebastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia claimed their fifth win of the current WRC season. The win in Rally Finland also makes them the fifth duo to do so outside of Scandinavia and Finland; and Ogier the eleventh non-Nordic driver to accomplish the feat.
The annual Rally Finland is notorious for the average speed of the racers competing. The course boasts an average of 120.91 km/h during the 2013 Rally Finland where other rallies just produce around 80km/h. The track, which goes through a lush forest and lake banks, is known for its ideal route conditions. Moreover, the course has quick sections with a lining of trees, and blind crests and jumps.
Ogier’s rally car has also made a mark in the WRC scene. The Volkswagen Polo R WRC claimed twelve stage wins with 24 top three times at the Rally Finland. Since its debut early this year, the car has a total of 81 out of 143 stage wins.
The duo will be racing in the Volkswagen’s home event at the Rally Germany in August 22 to 25. If they are able to pull away at 112 points, Ogier and Ingrassia can seal the lead with guaranteed titles.
