Tipo Folgore is Maserati's Formula E race car

Earlier this year, Maserati confirmed they will be returning to the world of motorsports after a lengthy hiatus. But don't expect to see the Trident brand joining Formula One. Instead, the Modena-based automaker will be racing in Formula E.

They will be a new manufacturer starting in 2023 and will be the first Italian brand to join the electric motorsport series. Maserati also announced its driver lineup last November which will consist of Edoardo Mortara and Maximilian Gunther. They will be driving for Maserati MSG Racing for season 9 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

With Maserati set to compete next year, all the manufacturer needs now is their electric racer, and here it is. Say hello to the Tipo Folgore Gen3 – the first fully-electric racing car in the history of Maserati. Wearing the brand's signature iconic blue hue, the Tipo Folgore serves as the ultimate electric racing machine built by the Modena-based automaker.

The fully-electric race car is named after the brand's first race car which was revealed way back in 1926 – the Tipo 26. It finished first place in its class with Alfieri Maserati at the wheel. Now, 96 years later, Maserati welcomes electrification with its first-ever Formula E competitor.

As for the livery itself, the Tipo Folgore features a contemporary and pure look. In keeping with the automaker's lineage, the Trident is placed prominently at the nose of the vehicle along with the Maserati Corse logo featuring the Italian Tricolore sitting on either side of the bulkhead.

Since Maserati's electric race car will be based on the Gen3 Formula E racers, the Tipo Folgore is capable of cranking out up to 476 PS, up to 600 kW of regenerative power, and a 95% power efficiency.

The Maserati Formula E racer will soon be heading to Valencia, Spain for pre-season testing before making its way to the track of Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City on January 14, 2023, to commence the 17-race calendar.
