If there's one thing we missed in 2020, it's racing. Given the situation, it was not surprising to see all motorsports events being canceled lasted. While some were able to hold private track days, no large grid race events were happening. Likewise, Toyota Motor Philippine's annual one-make race series – the Vios Racing Festival – was also postponed.
Thankfully, regulations are more relaxed this 2021. And as it stands, it looks like racing will be resume later this year. Toyota has announced that they plan to bring back the Vios Racing Festival (VRF) this June. Once again, Clark International Speedway will be filled with drivers and Vios cup cars all fighting to see who's the fastest. However, do expect some big changes to the event, especially under the new normal.
There is a bit of bad news though. As it stands, nothing is set in stone yet. According to TMP, the VRF will be held “provided that authorities have deemed the event safe”. Given the current situation with over 3,000 new cases in the past few days, it's not looking too good. Still, we're hoping for the best and excited at the idea of Vios cup cars dicing on the race track again.
Thankfully, another motorsport event from Toyota making its return in 2021 – the GR Supra GT Cup Philippines. TMP has confirmed that there will be a second season of the Gran Turismo-based online race. Esport racers will once again battle it out on the virtual track to see who is the fastest. Will last season's winners emerge victorious once again, or will we see a different set of drivers on the podium this time around?
More details for the Vios Racing Festival and the GR Supra GT Cup Asia – Philippines will be announced at a later date. For now, it's time to dust off that sim rig and practice racing.
