WATCH: Porsche climbs Goodwood with all-electric Cayman GT4
Cayman GT4 ePerformance produces 1088 PS in quali mode

The Goodwood Festival of Speed is a yearly celebration of machines from the past, present, and future. It's a place where manufacturers showcase their iconic cars, as well as what we could expect from them in the coming years.
Porsche has demonstrated what customer racing, or GT racing, could look like in the future with the 718 Cayman GT4 ePerformance. The all-electric race car tackled the 1.9-km hill climb track of Goodwood to formally launch the GT4 ePerformance world tour.

For starters, the GT4 ePerformance has the components of the Mission R concept from 2021 and uses the 718 GT4 Clubsport model as the basis of its chassis. Like the Mission R concept, the GT4 ePerformance's electric motor can produce up to 1,088 PS in qualifying mode. But for longer races, a steady 612 PS can be accessed for 30 minutes which is usually the length of a typical Carrera Cup race.
Porsche says in terms of track performance and top speed, the GT4 ePerformance is up to par with the current ICE-powered 992-generation 911 GT3 Cup car. In addition, the GT4 ePerformance could get back on track quickly after race sessions, as it could recharge its batteries from 5 to 80 percent in just 15 minutes thanks to its 900-volt technology.
At this year's Goodwood Hillclimb, the GT4 ePerformance achieved the second overall fastest time after clocking in at 45.50 seconds, only losing out to the McMurtry Automotive Spierling fan car.
With the GT4 ePerformance's showing, the potential of all-electric GT4 customer racing is indeed an enticing one and serves as a reminder that the speed machines we love will live on.
