Using Ionizers will do no good. It just increases oxygen levels but not clean the air   :)

On the contrary:

"The ability of an ionizer to remove very fine particles from the air makes it extremely valuable for health. Recent studies indicate that the smaller the particle, the harder it is for our immune systems to cope with.

So ionizers have a "double action" effect. They excel at removing microscopic particles - the most harmful - and at the same time they restore a "vitality" to the air - which our bodies appear to need for their everyday functioning."

according to the report:

"SINGAPORE (Reuters) - It is healthier to walk along a busy road and breathe in exhaust fumes than to sit in the comfort of an airconditioned car, a U.S. researcher said on Wednesday. "

Let's make an individual choose between:
Dark exhaust/gas coming off our country's car, buses(imagine the black filthy carbon monoxide), jeepneys.
and
Your car's/home's airconditioner

i would still rather choose to drive and be at home, rather than walk along edsa/ caloocan.

If the report was based on the country Singapore. Well, i rest my case.

When driving in the province I acutally induce outside air into the car. Sometimes i do open my window, and you will feel like you could breathe more easily.
So does this mean the oxygen in the car deminishes?

Not all car fresheners are good. One way to know is when your kids throw up when they get a good dose of it.

The mall is a different story. They may contain pollutants but the thing is they have(I hope all does)strong exhaust vaccums, so the air circulates, too. Ventilation is adequate.

You would also know by the smell of the car or a building if you get quality air or not.  ;)

I'm not surprised at the report but I think that's kinda like worrying if the sky's gonna fall on you one day...instead of worrying about things like this, it's better to keep healthy like not smoking, avoiding places with cigarette smoke, exercising your lungs thru exercise and eating healthy.

That's worth taking note of.

FYI. If you worry about our ambient air full of surfur dioxide, i think you must be more concerned about the nicotine. Nicotine in is only about 0.015% per stick. Eventhough, NICOTINE IS TWICE POINSONOUS THAN CYANIDE.
