you are railroading the topic. this thread is not about precautions in buying 10 year old cars. and if you're buying a 10 year old car it's not only the transmission you'll have to be wary about.

i will not swap if i were you!

not with a 323 esp A/T.. and esp coming from a corolla. sobrang maninibago ka sa fuel and maintenance cost mo.

i used to own a 323 M/T.. i know.

this input is specifically in comparison of a corolla and 323 familia, and the manual and matic variants of the 323familia. not in anyway a generalization of manual vs matic performance of all cars.

hello mga ka auto! ask ko lang if ano ang advantages at disadvantages ng manual tranny sa auto tranny?
i'm planning to swap my corolla 93 model big body all manual sa mazdaspeed familia 323 97 model all power A/T.

if i were you, i'd get the manual tranny instead of matic kung gusto mo ng ganyan katanda yung kotse..

kung may budget ka bumili ng early 2000 cars, baka sakali puede ka pa mag matic

Wow long argument huh?  haha

Just wanna share one more experience about the subject...

I first learned to drive using A/T cuz it was easier and most cars in the US are A/T kasi.  I'd imagine many rookie drivers also learn to drive with A/T today.  So, ok, A/T is easy and convenient to drive.

Later, I was only "forced" to learn how to drive stick-shift later when my brother left me his car.  It was harder, at first, of course, but after a few months I got the hang of it.  Then I started really enjoying driving and later joined slaloms, racing, etc.

Anyway my point is, I find M/T a lot more enjoyable than A/T and prefer it now, even in traffic.  I like to be "kept busy" shifting while driving cuz it makes me feel like I am DRIVING, not just commuting from A-to-B.  If you learn how to race, shifting will become second nature like walking and it will be as easy as driving A/T everyday.

I think this is the essence of M/T: it's more enjoyable to drive.  But for luxury cars then maybe, ok, A/T is better.

I wouldn't get an A/T car of this age.  Older A/T's tend to rob a lot of power and give poor fuel mileage.  Repairs are more expensive as well and if the car stalled in the middle of the road, you wouldn't be able to restart it by pushing.  I wouldn't recommend this car, although if this was a newer car with a five or six speed automatic transmission with manual override, it would be another matter.  It will also depend on the location of your daily commute, manuals can be a real pain in congested traffic especially if our age begins to pile up...
