Enthusiast,

Both price range around P960K.

Which of the two will you prefer to buy, 2.5L D4D turbo
16 V DOHC or 3.0L Direct injection ( don't know Valve
configuration ) ??

And Why ?????

I'd pick the D-MAX. talo ang Hilux 2.5E sa engine output. (102hp vs 130hp)  sa features, halos pareho lang ata sila.

anyway, baka gusto mong hintayin ang next gen na L200: ::)

creepy

D-Max.

The Toyota P900k+ Hi-Lux is lower (height-wise) and doesn't look as good as a result.  And...  wala pang ABS/airbag, etc...

mykboo

Went to Isuzu last sat....

The engine of Dmax has 8 valve with TIC which is the reason it can push 130 Hp. Surely it will need much diesel as the engine is an old design.

The comfort is typical a truck, the backseat entry/exit is awkward, tight. Internal is just typical and simple. It has ABS, 2 airbag.  The leaf spring is mounted below the axle. 16 " mags. Three year old model...

Not been to toyota.... however from what I read in their on line brochure..... it has DOHC 16 Valve Turbo
engine with D4-D. No ABS, No Airbag, 15 " mags. 105Hp
only. with comp. box. Internal is like Innova...

The possibilities of engine tweaking and upgrade is better with Hilux.

Regarding Resale value ??? not sure who has an edge.

My concern is if Dmax will release D4-D since it is already 3 years..... luma agad ung binili ko dmax.

All who posted voted for Dmax.....me also initiallly.
I'm dumb and hardheaded inclined to Hilux... ???????
Need to test drive Hilux........

In this case, the DMax 4x2 has the better value of the two. Features-wise, it has the Hilux beat. However, if you still favor the Hilux, for some intangible reason, then go with Hilux. This is the same logic I applied when I went for the Prado over the Pajero. So that you don't end up kicking yourself over a wrong decision. I suggest you go visit a Toyota dealer first and scope the Hilux.

We have '04 dmax. some feedback:
fuel economy, measured - top 16.1km/l worse @6km/l(running top speed 165km/h. it can't go any faster)
turbo boost starts 1500rpm
ABS, EBD, Dual Airbag.
Ladder Chasis - very stable at high speeds; sacrifice back seat comfort at speeds below 30. it's like a sports tuned car suspension.
Ground clearance higher than hi lux 4x2.
SRP 940,000. insurance resale value after a year -P150,000.
Makapal ang body... kya lang medyo easy magkaroon ng mga DING.:-[

There are sites which says you can tweak your toyota d4-d. hi lux from 164ps to 210hp. not bad eh?
just search the toyota motor over yahoo...

If you go dmax i hope they put out soon the '05dmax common rail. same motor as alterra. this is common Rail Generation 3 Deisel motor.  ???

if you have hilux 4x2 can you share info, too?
This may help others decide what to shop.  ;)

Your so Welcome!
One more thing you should know. dmax is nimble. I play the steering at 130 kmh and it gives you so much confidence.

Oh by the way. you may wanna check out the thread 'Hilux - Prepare to meet your match'.
check out Mitsubishi Triton at Mitsubishi-triton.com.
If you love the hilux design you will learn to appreciate this one, too! It surpasses dmax and hilux. no wonder MMC was so silent about their trucks. they have a very dark secret.... hehehe!

one more thing...for now...
my dmax is quite stiff. i like it that way so it can take on hard turns better, and the stock tires grip more. we get lots of rain in zambales and i don't want to have tire failure due to underinflation. Hot: front 35psi; rear 37psi
cold: f 32; r 34

Is there an aftermarket shocks designed for Dmax?
What brand ? ex. OME ?

The dmax i rock is all stock. Isuzu dmax '05 was marketed to have a softer ride compared to the dmax ls '04. So i assume a stiffer sus for our truck.
You may have notice the front torsion bar instead of coil-over spirngs. This gives so much stability specially at high speeds.
I've seen hilux 2.5 shares the same suspension system with the hilux 4x4.
The balance of the dmax suspension is super. it is well balanced. I actually took to an, WRC 3-right degree, uphill curve @140kmh. I needed to tap on the brake just to slowdown and to get a little more grip. Curve Exit speed 110kmh. body-roll is present, but minimal. not that the sus in bad but the truck is heavy @ 2.6 tons. if i feel the tires were not failing me i wouldn't have to tap  the brakes at all.
a slight +/-2 psi on tire pressure can also changel its performance.
Isuzu made the truck so balanced that i haven't felt it to be prone to over nor understeer. Tires are a big factor.
Rocky-gravel ways? if not for the tire loosing grip i could only manage 110kmh. beyond that is just wheel spin. and the faster you go on rough the better the suspension goes, too.
I may only have to modify the tires to A/Ts.
For now i have to keep it that way for warranty purposes. and my insurance policy would only allow standard part replacement. sayang naman ang mods if ideny nila claims for rapairs namin just because i pushed my truck too hard. ;)
Sorry if a have to say a lot. i just want you to see the merits of stock sus. Besides, i really haven't check on aftermarket shocks. :)
