i'm planning to buy a toyota corolla liftback. i've always been a mitsu guy.  well anywayz, the corolla that i am planning to buy still has a stock engine (i think its a 2T engine). what i want to know is what would be a good engine upgrade for this car? m looking to transplant it with a 4age or 4agze. what i want to know is if i would be able to use the existing tranny or would i need to buy a new tranny. another thing i want to know is what would be the other engines that would fit the car, preferably 1 that has a bolt on turbo upgrade & lsd. if possible, do you have any idea on the price range for the engine.

if the stock engine is 1600 cc then it's a 2T. may mga lumabas kasi na mga liftback with the 4k (1300 cc) engine.

Engine options?

1.) any a-series engine (4A-GE, 4ag-ze). if the engine came originally from an FWD car, may babaguhin lang konti sa intake manifold so it will be fit for RWD applications.

Puwede rin iyong 3t-gte (1800cc, twincam, twin spark, factory turbo) but since iron block ito IMHO you will be having handling issues (i.e. car will be front heavy). If you want turbo, get 4ag-ze, attach w55 tranny (to handle torque), discard the supercharger and turbo the engine.

2.) transmission naman, if the engine is 1600 and 5-speed most likely t50 na iyong transmission. so no need to change trannies na. One way to also check if your tranny is t50 is if your car needs clutch fluid. Hydraulic kasi ang clutch ng t50. Otherwise kung 4k engine ka tapos 5 speed then k50 lang iyong tranny. The tranny would bolt on to any a-series engine with some minor modifications but the tranny couldn't handle the engine power from the a-series engine.

but if you're going 4ag-ze best bet is to go w-series tranny (w55, w50).

3.) since RWD ang oto, the LSD unit is separate from the tranny unit not unlike FWD cars. you will be buying them separately or pag kapos sa budget, opt for the "posi-dikit" method. pag malakas na iyong makina usually the recommended ratios are 4.3:1 pataas.

4.) Price range for the engine? depends on how deep your wallet will allow it. I have once requested for a quote for an engine swap on my car (corolla 1978) and 55k aabutin lahat-lahat. 4a-ge TVIS + t50 transmission and all the conversion including tranny/engine support, etc.

pwede mo na din iturbo yung 2t mismo since supposedly maganda ang response ng hemi heads to turbocharging due to the volume of the combustion chamber. hanap ka lang ng mga 2tgte components like the exhaust manifold and intake, with alittle modification. pwedeng carb turbo or change to efi

or palit ng crank ng 3t to make it into a 1.8, make sure alng may enough piston to valve clearance  ;D

or change the head to a 2tg head (pwede combo sa 3t crankshaft) but also check for the p/v clearance.

or.. keep the 2t as is change exhaust, carb (32/36 kung amy mahanap or equal 325cfm) and intake mga after market kung may makita or yung five finger intake o kaya custom fit from a different car but with intake diameter of 33-35mm around there. tas cam and dual valvesprings and you're good to go! ;D

nga pla mga sirs, ask ko lang kung anong lsd pwede kong gamitin? maybe in 2 months time, i would be able to start the project car... i'm on the process of planing pa kasi... like u guys said, luma na yung car... kaya naghahanap pa rin ako ng ibang pwede? it's suppose to be a daily driver that packs quite a punch. kaya as much as posible, gusto ko sana yung malakas na engine... i sure i would be needing it w/ the way i drive, especially sa madaling araw...

lsd hanap ka ng mga 10 bolter na may stock lsd, or you can go aftermarket kasi marami nanaman parts nagspring out dahil sa pagsikat ng ae86, same naman yung differential size  :)

or opt for the "posidikit" method. pahirapan na rin maghanap ng LSD ngayon (nasa mga hardcore old schoolers na).

BlackBlood

hahaha tama mahal na bentahan ngayon hahaha ako di makabili bwahahaha

tnx sa advice... BTW, pano po ba yung "posidikit" method??  pasensya na po mga sirs... 1st time ko lang to encounter the term... actually, it's my 1st time to do a rwd project car eh... gusto ko kasi oldskul nman para sa father ko...

more hp's mga bros ;D

posidikit is a cheap way of converting your open type tranny to LSD.

Downside is di nga lang siyang torque-sensing (i.e. Torsen). All the time naka-LSD mode iyong differential mo kaya lalaki ang mga liko mo.

Research up on google for what LSD (Limited Slip Differential) means and what does it do.

mga sirs... juz an update... i already got the liftback that i've benn telling u guys about. medyo marami marami pang aayusin sa suspension, lsd & interior. pero kaya naman unti-untiin... nywyz, it has a 2t engine n t50 na tranny. may ngsabi sakin, pwede ko raw gamitin yung lsd ng corona... m also planning to upgrade the brakes (f&r) to slotted disc brakes... sabi sakin, kasya din daw pang corona d2 (tama ba)... nywyz, tnx sanyo mga bossing na nagbigay ng info... pag meron pa kong tanong, i'll post it ulit dito...

as for the disc brakes hanap ka ng for corolla din papalitan na ang buong strut assembly sa harapan at yung assembly sa likod. pero yun lang nga mahirap makapag hanap ng ganung klaseng surplus parts kasi its from a corolla na di naman talaga pinarating satin, may ibang dx ata ganun pero not sure. pareng Raymond ano say mo?. as for the corona hindi gagana yung differential niya kasi 10 bolt ang mga corolla diff at 8 bolt yung sa rona unless ayun nga palit ng buo kaya alng medyo mahirap. imho ayusin mo muna to working condition ang car bago kalikutin ang mga ganyang bagay. makina muna, suspension parts, steering alignement etc etc. tsaka na braking power pag malakas na yung makina hehe.  ;)

appreciate your help very much mga bros... thank you thank you... ;D

medyo mahal presyo ng mga 10 bolt na lsd siguraduhin mo na tama ang kinukuha mo, check mo din ratio ng diff depende sa gusto mong driving condition. stock ng liftback i think is 4.1 or 4.3  bilangin mo nalang ngipin ng malaking gear then divide by the small gear. imo magbasabasa ka muna from other sites, pero wag masyado sa mga message boards for proper info on modifying your ride.

sir walang slotted disc brakes para sa old school, ang ginagawa ng iba ay pinapamodify iyong brake discs sa machine shop, which is a big no-no.

kung gustong lumakas iyong preno you could look at the other vital brake parts such as brake pads, rotors, brake lines, at siyempre brake fluid at hydrovac/brake booster.
