hi guys,

help me choose my next DSLR. I realized that the D7000 is still way out of my budget. so I'm choosing between the D3100 and the D90 to replace my D40X. below are the pros and cons of each:

D3100
- very good IQ
- very good high ISO performance
- affordable (+/- 25k, with kit lens)
- DX only lenses
- "just" 3fps

D90

- good IQ
- good ISO performance
- semi-affordable (30+k body only)
- can use FX lenses
- 4.5fps

which of the two would you recommend and why?

I'd go with the D90. It has a built-in wireless commander  for triggering and adjusting Nikon SB600, 800, 900 flash guns.

Sorry to confuse you with more choices. Why not go for the D7000's competitor? I see Canon 60D bodies at 38k (D7000 is at 48k to 53k) It's almost neck to neck with high clean ISO performance of the d7000.

Unless your current camera is broken, skip the upgrade and save up a bit more for the D7000 nalang Tomas. You'd get better value with a much better camera.

I guess that's still the best option. D7000 prices have gone up to 52k at the moment. (christmas demand?)  I hope it goes way down next year.

Christmas demand and Thailand flood aftermath. They'll go down around Feb or March I think.

If you can find any in stock. A friend sold his D60 in order to move up to the D7000 and after he sold his camera, he can't locate a D7000 unit.

Whoa! That's crazy... So that's why D7000's prices are up...

@DTNS recommendation will highly depend on where you'll use the camera. But between the 2, I'd go for the D90. But yeah, better wait for D7000's prices to go down, way better value for money.

disregarding # of actuations and camera condition, that package is a steal! a brand new Nikkor 17-55mm 2.8G costs more than 65k!

Not baaaad. 65k seems a fair price. A d90 body is around 18k to 20k if sold to a friend these days and that 17-55 is around 40k to 45k usually.  It's like the batt grip, bag and sling came in as a bonus.

The 17-55 2.8 is a sweet sharp, pro built lens. I think the actual value of the package is around 75k assuming the bag, grip, and sling are in pristine condition. More so if the batt grip is an original Nikon mb-d80.

See if you can haggle for 55k or 60k (ask nicely) Even if he doesn't budge, 65k seems good enough because of that optically wonderful and flexible 17-55 lens.

30,000 na mga sirs ang actuation ng d90. What I researched is that d90 can do 100,000 actuations.
