Just wanted to start a small thread about racing videos.

Post the link of the video here and tell us something about it

So let me start.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCt2brsEweo

the race that gave Ayrton Senna's big break. this is the 1984 monaco grand prix. It is also the shortest ever grand prix ever held. just 31 laps before the race stewards decided that it is too dangerous to do so. Look at Prost and Senna's driving! nothing waste full just complete and confindent car control. Unlike nigel mansell who drives by the seam of his pants.
highlights :

senna fighting from the back of the grid to finish 2nd
senna overtakes nikki lauda
Steffan Bellof 's overtaking maneuver just before lowes hairpin
Alain Prost winning the race with just his front brakes working (when the race was stopped, he didn't do a slow down lap he stopped infront of the pits, just as senna was about to overtake him)

Here is an onboard video of alain prost in the ferarri 614 (or was it 641?) in 1990. In that season, he was fighting for the title with senna. In 1990, prost didn't earn a single pole position but he beat senna by over 40 seconds in mexico depite prost qualifying in 13th place only)

THe ferrari was not the best car in 1990, but prost was able to maximize it. The ferarri understeers heavily and still, prost can match senna with it

oh and did I mention the noise? the engine sounds is sooo good, I never tire of this video

Another Senna VS Prost Video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tG2fho6sKsI

This is the 1990 Mexico Grand Prix. I consider this as one of Alain Prosts Finest victories.
Due to mechanical woes, Prost only qualified 13th (his worst start in 10 years).

Being the "Professor" of F1, he concocted a strategy where he used only the hardest tires and a single stop. He realized after watching other drivers in qualifying that tire wear was quite high.

This race shows you how prost earned his name as "THE PROFESSOR". Qualifying position is irrelevant for Prost in a circuit with good overtaking places.

HIghlights:

Prosts fight from 13th to win the race
Prost overtakes the helpless senna
Senna tries to keep up with prost but with softer tires, he wore them out quickly and ended up blowing the rear left tire.
NIgel Mansell's BIG BALLS TO THE WALL overtaking maneuver of gerhardt berger's mclaren on the banked corner called peraltada. Mansell dived into the corner side by side with berger FLAT!!!

The race was a ferarri 1-2, ferarri won't be this competetive for another 7 years when schumi came along

NEW VIDEO

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwbY9RJ2gGs

this is the 1986 Belgian Grand Prix. Quoting Peter Derrick:
"A first corner contact with Berger forces Prost to limp slowly around the longest circuit in F1 for a new nose. He resumes in last place, with a seriously bent steering column requiring him to adjust his steering by a 1/4 turn on the straights for the rest of the race. He sets a race fastest lap 2 seconds faster than anyone else, and finishes 6th for a vital point (he won the title by just 2 points that year). John Barnard watched the telemetry and said Prost didn?t once touch the boost. He took that drive out of himself, not the car, and Barnard rates it one of the best performances he?s ever seen."

On another NOTE I LOVE THE COMMENTATOR!!! He was so funny
Hi's comments were witty and wise-ass funny. he was like

"Keke Rosberg retired with nicotine starvation, they still haven't given him a helmet with a little hole in":

"Mansell was having fun, too much fun he did a pirouette dropping back to 4th" "Now Mansell, the british bulldog is eager to retrieve the bone he had dropped while dazzled by the spinning scenery"

ibang klase talaga character ng drivers dati. astig.

thanks for the video and info jp!

Here's another classic:  --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSl-WLah2Nw&feature=related

Donnington Park 1993, European Grand Prix.

Senna's dominating performance in the rain, is up to now, considered as one of the best demonstrations of driving talent of all times.

His car is 100 hp less powerful than the Williams, and about 30 hp less than the Benetton.  And yet, he won by more than 1 lap ahead of everybody except for Damon Hill who was barely within the same lap.

At the final stages of the race, Senna's gap was so big, he entered the pitlane out of character just to wave at his pit crew.

NIce vid there mike! That's one lap that murray walker will take to his grave. Despite the horsepower disadvantage, the mclaren has the best traction control at the time, and senna maximized everything!!!

But here is my answer to your vid!!! ;D

This is the race in the nurburgring  in 1968 (a track so dangerous, it was removed from f1 in the 1970's and replaced by the new nurburgring circuit) it is so long, 187 corners over 20 km per lap as compared to SPA which around 7km.

Like donnington 1993 this race was soaking, to add to the danger there was FOG!!! (the race should be cancelled by today's standard)

This race holds the record for the BIGGEST margin of victory. Jackie stewart drove like hell to win by OVER 4 MINUTES!!! :o :o
he did it in a car that has no traction control, no aerodynamics, a chassis that flexes and twists (its made from thin and flexible aluminum) in a circuit that has almost no visibility, NO BARRIERS!!!, and 1 ambulance (jackie stewart's own personal) that will have to start from the pits to get to you (will take forever to reach you :o)

By the time Graham hill came home in second, jackie stewart was already chatting with his mechanics.

TO add insult to injury, jackie stewart was one of the pioneers and lobbyinst for more safety features in F1 so he is pretty much the center of criticism about stewart ruining racing's romance with danger.

Stewart eventually retired when his protege, the man he labeled to be his successor, the man who will inherit his no.1 status Francois Cevert, was killed in the practice session in Watkins Glenn. Since then jackie never participated in a grand prix ever again. R.I.P. Francois Cevert.

Let's now go to the lighter side of racing, specifically the lighter side of senna, where a japanese TV show gave senna time of off F1 and gave him a go kart track and some "friendly" competition. The show is japanese unfortunately but you can understand senna ;D
See senna without the pressure of f1, just clean fun

make that "beating a cheating senna" senna kept cutting a specific corner almost every lap. He also would have been disqualified for doing the course IN REVERSE, but this is not f1 just....for lack of a better word....plain playing around

too bad the rematch in brazil never happened, senna never lived to see the end of the 1994 season. The video was made in 1993 mclaren ford

Agent J

well, the cutting of the corner didn't really help much. all of them were pretty much evensteven up to the end.  when senna got a bit of lead, i think he backed down for bit to let them catch up.  makes me think that he's really goofing around with them and lose on purpose.

doing the course in reverse wasn't cheating..  he did it as an exhibition on how fast he can be even in reverse.
he did a standard qualifying after that anyway.

jphachi_roku ,

Thank you for sharing that interesting Jackie Stewart video... now I have an idea of how old you are :)

Joke only, Cheers!

Here are some of alain prost's onboard laps.

Alain Prost is senna's arch-nemesis the anti-thesis to senna's principles.
Rather than being obsessed in becoming #1, alain prost mastered a conservative style. Regarded as one of the smoothest drivers in F1. He minimizes every aspect of his driving, taking the car to the unragged edge.

During his formula 3 days, he won the championship with a renault chassis. IT does not sound like anything but, prost was the only one who could win in it. After winning the f3, nobody can win in a renault chassis again.

in 1984, Lauda was quoted "The mclaren understeers like a PIG, only prost could drive it properly"

Here are the vids

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoZrBNsuMZc (kyalami 1980's)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d68nzwg-vAs (monaco 1983)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKHMX2xQlqY (adelaide 1993) here, prost conformed his car for the next season (the season that will ban all driver aids) He is practically driving what senna will be driving the next year.

Having won the drivers championship, he was already helping in the development of next years car. Same old prost, rather than being greedy like senna, he just takes what he needs, not everything
