we all know that we need to change oil every 5000km. well how about for people who travel less? for ex. 14km per day. he will reach 6 months or so then his km reading will still be less than 5k. is it really true change oil every 3 months or 5k km whichever comes 1st?, or continue to use the car even though its 6, 8 or 12 months as long as its not over 5k km?

depends on what oil youre using...but for peace of mind 3months sounds good to me.

i think amsoil lasts for like ayear accdg to some studies...its a good overrated/overpriced oil

Manga

Amsoil claim to be superior than the other brands out there even if it is Pao based. And this is the reason why they say you can have extended drain periods, more than what is asked of. and they don't recommend mixing their oils with another brand. you can test it for us.
There's a thing like flushing and getting fresh blood into the system.

For mineral oils, rule of thumb is 3 months or 5000kms. For synthetic oils 6 months or 10,000 kms. (These are recommended for the humid climate of ASEAN countries) Of course these follow the whichever comes first rule.

Better synthetic lubricants with extended drain specifications can last up to a year.

Driving conditions and driving habits should also be factored in for drain intervals as stated in the vehicle owner's manual. If you drive in an extremely dusty environment, drain interval will be reduced. If you drive at high engine speeds most of the time, drain interval will be reduced as well. Frequent short trips, and idling contaminate the oil with elements from the air. This will again shorten the life of the oil.

But of course it is always safe to follow manufacturer recommendations and adjust accordingly.

great now i know better. i'm using royal purple synthetic oil. even though its synthetic i change oil every 6 or 7k km. don't wanna overdo it for peace of mind. TY

speedyfix

i'd leave full syn oil in for a year if you're driving normally. i only change the oil on my montero once a year. about 5-6000 kms lang tinatakbo pero puro short trips lang.

on my other car i change twice a year coz i drive faster with it.

you can adjust intervals naman to suit the way you drive.

royal purple is a good oil. maybe 6mos to a year depends on how you drive.  i hit 3k in 2-3weeks and mostly hwy miles 60-80mph drive. so i change filter every 3k miles, oil/filter every 6k miles. i do a lot of long distance driving so 3k miles for me means money going down the drain... i used to do every 3k miles before my new job coz itll take me 2-3mos before i hit 3k w/c is good for me but now is a different story.

:sleepy2: Pano naman kung 2X a Week lang gamit ng Kotse which I think less than 5000 kms a year I think Once year is fair enough to do Oil Change I'm back with MOBIL 0-40W Fully Synthetic again .So far this Car is for  coding and Our Weekender Car only :puke:

Yes change at least once a year if you use a premium synthetic oil.

i change the oil myself so all i have to pay is the oil and filter...its really simple anybody can do it... i buy 5qt jugs w/c is alot cheaper than buying it per quart

i do the same, i change oil myself too when i need to use the "used oil to kill termites" otherwise have it done in shops so i won't have the hassle of disposing used oils.

speedyfix

you can also drop off the used oil in any workshop. i'm sure they will be happy to dispose of it for you.
