Well... the only thing left you can't do with the Unichip (as long as you can figure out the wiring... that's the one disadvantage of a "universal" system...) is individual ignition and injector control... everything else is possible... even closed loop modulation (through the built in O2 intercepts on the "Q" module). 80% of a standalone in a piggyback... I think it's worth it... ;)

speedyfix

it can increase rev limit too?

not really familiar with the full functionalities of the unichip. but in cases that you can replace the board of the stock ecu or just reflash it, i prefer that choice.

yup, me too. if the s14 wasnt such an old car, i'd have gone for reflash too. or even the "dont call me daughter"-board!!! ;D

whatever happened to that migs? it still just you guys(SF and TW s14's) who have it, right?

There's an add-on module for the Unichip that does rev-limiter removal, but it only works on a case-to-case basis.

speedyfix

wahahaha!!! that's a good name :)

we stopped bringing it in na since most people prefer the branded box route. it's still on our engine and chitos s14. TW's s14 now has the power fc d-jethro on it since our daugterboard could not convert from maf to map. TW's old daughterboard is now on erics s14 with the 20g turbine :)

That's my only camplaint with the Unichip.  The rev delimiter does not work on my engine.  So I go zooming all the way to 220++ kph then I hit the rev limit and that's it.  It's a shame because I can feel that the engine has a lot more power to give.

That's also my concern about adding on a turbo.  I can already hit the rev limit fast at 5th gear so what use is a turbo when you can't get higher speed because of the rev limiter?

Will a stand alone ECU be able to bypass the rev limit?

Sayang naman.  My engine is rated at 7,200 rpm but my stock box limits it to only 6,600 rpm. :(

A standalone can do absolutely everything. The unichip is limited to modifying the stock maps... while this is generally good enough, as the amount of ignition advance/retard and fuel lean/rich adjustments the stock box will let you get away with will always be enough for the most power under the stock rev limiter. And the Unichip can run auxiliary maps for extra injectors, NOS, VTEC and water-injection, launch control and adaptations for coolant temperature. But a standalone can do individual ignition and fuel control (per cylinder), multiple spark events, anti-lag, convert from MAF to MAP (allows you to run ITBs) etcetera. It'll definitely solve the rev-limit problem, but you'll encounter another one in the set-up...

If the box can do everything, you have to program everything. So aside from the cost of the box (cheapest I know is Microtech, around 50k pesos), you have to buy the sensors that go with the box... then custom wire, then custom base map, then custom tune... a standalone project takes months to get to the running stage... just ask Accord_GTR... I've seen his set-up... beautiful box... but according to him and Auto_Xer, it took a long time to tune.

for  honda der are some cheap alternatives like uberdata, crome and neptune

Unfortunately for us non-Honda guys, Megasquirt and Microtech are the only cheap options... :(

Niky, do we have a dealer of those computer overider gadgets here in Manila? Megasquirt and Microtech

niky

Don't know any. Megasquirt is mostlyt do-it-yourself... while Microtech is built in Australia, so tech support won't be too far away.

So I'm back to my old problem.  Finding a wiring harness for my FSZE so I can use its computer box.  Oh well...

if you have a wiring diagram, you can just have one made, y'know.... ;)

That's the problem -- I can't find any.  The FSZE engine is only used in Japan for the Mazdaspeed Familia.

The wiring diagrams I've seen are all for the FSDE which is used outside Japan, including the US.

The only other option left is to trace where each and every wire in my FSDE harness should connect to in the FSZE box.  But it would take a hell of a time and a top notch electrician.

Get the Microtech from Australia. The Aussies swear by it, and it can run the car... but you'll be spending an enormous amount on wiring and set-up... (50k ung box, price converted... then budget maybe 5k or more to install... then 10-15k worth of tuning). Dunno if it's worth the hassle.

Besides, even the FSZE has our FSDE's achilles heel... long stroke... which isn't suited to continuous high revving...

Bilhin mo nalang cam gears ko... hehehe... we're working on installing them right now... just needs a little machine shopping because the US company didn't do their homework, and made the adjustment bolts the same height as the cam position sensor studs. Dolts. We'll shave them a few mms, and it should work just fine. I'm going to use one local and one US cam gear, I'm willing to sell a mixed set to whoever else wants them.
