Yeah I know this is still a rumor BUT this one has a lot of smoke backing it up. So, where there's smoke, there must be something grillin' right? Yep.

Sweet shooting enthusiasts and weekend hobbyists have been calling for an affordable watershed FX cam from CanoNikon for years. The candidate parts have been around for a long time but in truth, we just build wishful mock-ups in our heads:

"Get this cheapo part from this cam, this sensor from this model and this body from this series and we can have a FF body at the 70,000 peso range (1,500 dollars)" is what you'd usually hear from a gathering of cam loving nuts.

Maybe CanoNikon just waited for the technology and production costs to reach a point where an FX body can be made possible. Cutting corners and just leaving what you really need in a non-pro body can bring down costs too.

Nikon is the first to pull the trigger

The cam is closer in size to a D90 but the inspiration for the body and features were taken from a D7000. 24mp sensor of sweet resolution rumored to be from Sony. It has a built-in focus motor confirmed by the screw mount in the leaked images (that alone adds 500 dollars to the production costs) and U1 & U2 memory banks for quick recall settings (hoooooooraaaaaayyy!!!) 

For the longest time, you'd have to go in the 3,000 dollar (100k to 120k) range to get in the Full Frame category. Just when I made peace with my D90 and vowed to jump brands, THIS leaks out. Shooting with a 75k FF body just became possible. I guess I'm staying with the big N.

note: I still believe it's impossible for Nikon to make this a 1,500 dollar body. Initially, the focus motor was rumored to have been ditched to keep the price at 1,500 dollars but the feature somehow found it's way back. I estimate this cam to be in the 1,800 dollar area when it comes out.

Note the 50mm 1.4 D lens for size estimation. Hold your 50mm to somehow imagine the dimensions of the cam. The D lens on the cam also tells you that this cam DOES have a built-in focus motor because that lens along with the 50mm 1.8D will not AF on non-motor bodies.

You'll hear some say "Chopped! Fake! d7000 render dressing as a D600!" but if you have a D7000, you'll notice the seam line, mic and knob is located in a different location and angle. Why blurry? Well the spy probably shot hurriedly and ran but Nikon DEFINITELY wanted this to get out LOL

Nikon's D600, the most affordable Full Frame cam is available and you can order it now. The netscape is alive with previews and reviews of commissioned photogs and sites who kept mum about it prior to Nikon's announcement at Photokina this past weekend. Announced pricing for the camera is at 2099 dollars for the body. Expected to stabilize at 1,800 to 1,900 dollars by xmas. That's about 79,000 pesos?

Of course comparison to it's Canon (6D) counterpart is hard to avoid. The advantage of the Nikon is it's higher spec versus the Canon and it's ability to mount your current DX Nikkor lenses in DX (10mp) mode.

Canon's 6D is getting some flak from Canonites for adopting a mount which isn't compatible with EF-S lenses --- which defeats the purpose of tempting a DX user to upgrade to a Full Frame cam without dispensing his EF-S lens line up.

For a fair and just take on the D600, I think this site delivered the goods. In this link, a comparo was made on the image quality versus the 5D Mark 3.

This is obviously a business move by Nikon to attract new camera owners into going full frame and buying more lenses.

Sorry I missed this. Yes that too Brent. Nikon has it's eyes on owners coming from a D90, D300 and D7000. The AF system, metering system, body, sealing and some controls were borrowed from the D7000 to ease the transition from DX to entry level FF.
