Pioneer 12" sub to JL 8" sub

I'm thinking of replacing my Pioneer TS-WX303 12" bass reflex sub (ready-made ported box) with a 8" JL 8W7AE in a custom ported box (probably JL's recommended ported box specs).

now my questions: is it considered as a downgrade? and is it worth it?
