Inexpensive Sport Tourers

I'm looking for ideas for modest sport touring bikes. Cheap to buy, insure, operate and maintain. I've started doing long multi-day 1000+ mile trips these last few years and I'm looking to add a suitable bike to my garage. I'm a fan of inexpensive, ugly, unpopular, quirky and unique. Sport and Touring are equally important, no need for 2-up capability.

I know the usual suspects -- Bandit, FZ1, C10. Anything besides those? Any feedback on the ZZR, ZR-7S? I don't see those discussed very often.
