help me decide between avanza and ecosport

i am planning to buy a new car but still deciding what to buy.. either avanza or ecosport.  need to ask help from you which will be better and more practical. preferrably in maintenance

Obviously the Avanza is more practical, since it has more cabin space and a 3. seat row for occational use by children.

It is also a much more crude vehicle, since it is a body on frame construction, and unlike nearly all other small cars, it is actually rear wheel drive.

So while it shares its engines with the front wheel drive Vios / Yaris, it is actually classified as an AUV and has more in common with its larger sister the Innova.

If you want a small MPV / AUV, there are two other and much more modern choises available now. They are called Suzuki Ertiga and Chevrolet Spin.

The Ertiga in particular is a very strong alternative to the Avanza, since it is available at near identical price and trim levels. But unlike the rather cruda Avanza it is build on a car platform (from the Swift) and is therefore front wheel drive.

The Ecosport is an entirely diffent type of vehicle, a small crossover. A crossover is a less practical but more fashionable choise than an MPV / AUV. It has better flood vading capability though, so in that sence it is a bit more practical.

Only you know your needs and priorities, so only you can make the choise between crossover and small AUV/MPV.

if your considerations are maintenance and practicality, my vote goes to the Avanza. it's a Toyota, parts are cheap and plentiful, it seats 7, and has a larger cargo bay (3rd row folded).

I've checked out a Ford EcoSport at a Ford showroom some time ago. I wasn't impressed. its front seats are too narrow, its cargo bay is small. it's essentially a raised Ford Fiesta. if flood Fording (pardon the pun) and "image" are your buying considerations, the EcoSport may be the vehicle for you.

If you're going to get an automatic, avoid the Ecosport unless you're asking for headaches. It has a jerky drive in city traffic. Fiesta owners in FCP reported a lot of issues such as premature tcm, clutch disk replacements etc etc, the list goes on. We know the Fiesta and Ecosport share the same drivetrain so it's possible this will occur on Ecosports as well.

The Avanza on the other hand is crude but reliable. If you can live with the horrendous fuel consumption in city for the automatic, then by all means go for it.

Why not the Innova d4d? That would be my first option. If not, a Suzuki Ertiga is good value for money too.

At the time of this writing Toyota was a majority shareholder in Daihatsu, and now they have also aquired the remaining shares. So Daihatsu was and is just a part of the Toyota corporation, just like Lexus is.

Both Lexus and Daihatsu has access to Toyota technology. So if a vehicle is named Toyota, Daihatsu or Lexus should be largely irrelevant to customers. The important is, what the vehicle deliver, and if it is good value for money or not.

As you say, the Avanza is a pretty crude vehicle. But so is the Innova, which is assempled here in the Philippines. The Innova shares its engines and transmissions with the Hi-Lux pick-up truck, and the Avanza shares its engines and transmissions with the Vios and Yaris subcompacts.

So it really has no merit stating, that the Avanza is somehow less of a Toyota than the Innova. They are both very similar, and they have both been build specifically with emerging markets in mind. As have also the Fortuner for that matter. That vehicle is also not sold in developed countries except for Australia.

All crossovers are essentially just raised versions of the same manufactures sedans or hatchback vehicles, and as such the only real reason for buying them is image and the higher seating position.

This is certainly not exclusive to the Ecosport. And usually the price has been raised a lot more than the suspension. In that respect the Ecosport is actually one of the better deals in the market, since Ford only charge you 75k to raise up your Fiesta.

Other manufacturers are a lot more greedy than that. For instance the Honda HR-V is essentially a raised Jazz. And it does seem a bit steep to pay 1,2M for a raised Jazz, when the outgoing Civic started at just 1M for a comparably speced vehicle.

So as you say, crossovers are really mostly about fashion or image. There are few if any logical reasons to buy them.

Sir i think a much better comparison is the Avanza and Ertiga. Both are 7 seater and almost the same engine displacement.

I agree. If you want porma and comfort then go with Ecosport.
