Is the Ford EcoSport a good 1st car? Alternatives?

Too bad preowned is out of the question.  I would have suggested the latest Fortuner you could get within your max budget. It will serve you for years.

That is if you don't mind also the stiffer ride.

Looking to buy our first car, and we're more or less decided on an Ecosport (Trend, MT, Black Edition). The height was important to us, as it occasionally floods where we live. It's in the high range of our budget.

However, I've been seeing bad reviews for the AT, particularly its DCT transmission, and was wondering if transmission problems are also prevalent in the manual. Also now having second thoughts - I don't want to spend all that money and then sakit ng ulo agad 5 years down the road pa lang.

Any alternatives anyone might suggest also? We looked at the Juke as well, but it's significantly pricier, and while we love the look and I wouldn't mind the automatic, it also has less space compared to the Ecosport. The Mobilio was also considered, but it was too low - we might as well buy a Vios kahit less spacious, significantly cheaper and reliable pa. I've also driven an Avanza, HATED it, which is why we're crossing that off our list as well.

Ecosport MT variants has less or no at all issues like what you've found out on AT's. When it comes to compartment, it has an adequate space that can fit a couple of stuffs. Same goes to legroom to the passengers at the back, even 3 adults can freely sit with ample space without the tight feels.

I'm currently owns a Ecosport and it is my 1st brand new car. Not to be bias, you may want to consider ASX, Juke, Tucson or HR-V.

The problem with the AT is the shift shock and the performance, it is not really a maintenance problem because it the characteristic of the AT. While you will not experience this with the M/T. PM cost some may have different cost per CASA but comparing with the Japanese brands yes it is a bit pricier than Toyota you may be in line with the Mitsubishi,Hyundai. You just have to be wise on how and where you will bring your car on your next PM.

The Tucson might also be a possibility. That it's diesel is a big advantage for me - better for fording possible flooded areas and cheaper consumption (especially since we drive out of Manila at least once a month), and larger space.

What's giving me second thoughts is how long the unit will last (since its Hyundai), especially considering that my parents still have a very drivable 1998 Corolla and 2002 Revo, which is kind of my standard in terms of unit longevity. The availability of skilled third-party mechanics (who won't charge an arm and a leg) that can service it after warranty expires is also a concern.

We're already around 90% sold on the EcoSport, but I just want to make sure that we've considered all options, this being our first car purchase an all. Mahirap magka-buyer's remorse sa kotse. Haha.

Hehe...Nissan Juke is the closest competitor to Ecosport, sayang lang Sir kasi di namin siya nabtest dtive last Intl Motor Show..

I honestly don't see current Hyundais lasting any worse than current Fords. I favor the Juke over the Ecosport because I prefer how it drives and I like that it's a world vehicle. I agree that the Ecosport has more rear space, however.
