guys... im just wondering, would there be a big difference if for example you are going to construct  (w/ mdf only) and sealed against a sealed box of the same dimensions but with plexi on one side, mirrors inside and neons? ... in terms of sql/spl?

As long as the internal volume stays the same, there should be not much of a difference.

wala bang negative effect yun plexi vs mdf? or mirrors and mdf? in terms of resonance? sabi kasi sa kin kaya mas maganda mag all mdf is because mdf has more resonance and can produce better low freq... gusto ko rin sa kase yun tipong show-off type na enclosure e. what do you think?

i'm not sure pero parang may nabibiling mirror made of plexi. kung ordinary glass mirror lang baka mabasag sa lakas ng pressure.  Also, plexi has no negative effect kung gagamitin mo sa one side of the box. Basta bili ka ng 1/2 in. thick or 3/4.  Neon..hmm. I don't think so. Baka di magtagal..

You can use plexi glass on a portion of 1 side of the box.  But not the whole side.  Use 3/4" plexi or 1" better.  However, make sure na you put liquid nails then screws all over mga at least 2 inches apart.  You can check out Boss Vic's box for the 13W7, a small portion has plexi.  Kaya lang half made pa lang. ;)

BlackBlood

read somewhere that although popular material ang mdf for boxes hindi daw ito 100% airtight so di daw ganun kaganda.

can you guys recommend a shop that makes sub boxes na mura. thanks. Pa-quote kasi ako sa isang store and they were charging me 1500 for a 8-12" sub (1 piece) and sakin yung wood

in line with what has been mentioned above,...would it make that much difference if i had the box constructed (with the recommended/suggested dimension of the manufacturer [JL Audio])...as such that almost 3/4 of the surface area of one side would be in plexi-glass....(single 10W0) in a sealed enclosure?

isn't 3/4"-1" plexi hard to come by?...do they sell this in small cut-up portions?...in what dimensions?.

thanks!

1min, that wud be fine.  You can use 3/4" plexi.  1" kung malaki yung sub and box.  Kaya lang kasi ang hirap i-cut ng 1".  Well, yung 3/4" din is medyo mahirap nang i-cut pero better than 1".  You can get 3/4" plexi sa mga glass stores and they can cut to yr desired dimensions, I think. ;)

Nic, PM me I can recommend someone for yr sub box needs at a good price. ;)

vti97...thanks for the reply...will scout around for a shop that sells plexi-glass that's 3/4" thick and will give them the exact size of the pipece I would be needing for the box.

I was thinking of constructing the sub enclosure myself...but this would be my first time to do it and I believe that there is no room for errors based on what has been discussed in the other threads related to this one......any place where i can have it done na pulido yung gawa at mabilis?...single JL 10WO....and how much would it roughly cost?....sealed type, thanks!

as far as i've read, there might be a differences when the box is made with plexi or just plain MDF. how much would depend on how well the box is built. saka masmahirap ata i-seal ng mabuti yun plexi than MDFs. if in doubt, go for the tried and tested formula-MDF.

1min, dami sa Banawe na gumagawa ng box in MDF and plexi.  Sa price, I'm not sure siguro mga 3-4k w/ plexi.  Better check na lang pre.

W/ regards to using plexi, syempre better pa rin ang MDF lahat.  Kung magpeplexi ka, make sure na mase-seal mo yung mga edges and tight yung mga screws.  Put screws mga 2 inches apart para hindi mag-vibrate.  If you want to maintain the SQ, MDF lahat.  Kung gusto mo ng konting aesthetics, magplexi ka, pero if poorly done puro vibrations yung box. ;)

Vti97......thanks sa added info.....i have no experience yet in using enclosures with plexi eh...and i am not willing to take the risk if sound quality will be affected if not done properly(eq. vibrations..resonance..etc..)...and for the cost..well bawas pa siguro ng konti if i use MDF all the way...clarity lang ang habol ko eh...i was only after using plexi on one side kasi medyo mukhnag malinis tignan compared to having it all carpeted....

maraming salamat!

Off topic lang tayo ng konti .... may general rule ba sa dimension ng box ng subs? for example 12" wud go for a cubic and a half foot ported box .. how can you distinguished a good ported box in terms of the right dimensions and construction? Kungbaga pano mo na malalaman na hindi masyado malaki nor maliit yung box na ginawa? any criteria?

try to refer to the owner's manual. meron dyan recommended box size. o kaya naman you can use the program called WinISD.
