1min.shuffle

can you match an amp which only has a 4V input capability to a headunit that has 5V pre-outs?

what could happen to your amp?....

thanks

Billabong

yes. nothing bad will happen to the amp. :)

thanks for your immediate reply...this is all what i wanted to confirm.

Yes kaso clip agad yung amp mo kahit naka-sagad sa minimum ang gain mo.  Dapat kasi matched ang voltage.

1min.shuffle

if this were the case..then it's not advisable to match a headunit with 5V pre-outs with amps na meron input of 4V lang.....

but what if I split the signals from the headunit..will it subsequently make it 2.5V?

thanks

Billabong

nope, it does not send half of the signal to each of the outputs, so 5v pa din.

1 volt will not make much of a difference. di naman mag c-clip agad amp mo unless you are using it for a sub and will be playing bass tracks(i.e test tones).

I used to power my old Rference 404( up to 2 volts) with a 6volt headunit. Walang problem.

Just make sure na di ka parati naka test tones/sine wave pag gamit mo yung amp for sub.

Believe me kasi i also use an audiocontrol processor which has bulb indicators that light up pag umaabot ng 5v yung signal. Sa bass cd lang to umiilaw. 8)

thanks!  so, it won't make much of a difference pala if 1 volt lang..noted...salamat.

what if i hooked up a DSP right after the headunit, will it still give out 5 volts to the amps? pasensiya na....walang alam eh..thanks/

Moo Pare

depends on the dsp. Check the specs. Usually it will state how many volts rms it can receive and how many volts it will put out. Check the voltage input and voltage output of the dsp unit. 8)

Some people are not able to hear the difference of a slightly clipped signal to an unclipped signal.

But then...the gain knob is there to match voltages.

If you are a SQ purist... you would like an uncolored sound.  IMHO, clipping the amp colors the sound lalo na sa separates. Yung iba kasi walang awa sa gamit kaya nasisira yung powersupply ng amp kasi ginagawa ng amp is to produce more power(due to clipping)...more power than its powersupply can give out.  Kadalasan din kung gagamit ka ng mataas na voltage than what your amp can take...magkakaroon ng turn on/off thumps which can be annoying.

guys, I want to ask if, Aside from alpine, there is any other amp that has 4-volt input? My Alpine HU (CTA 1502) has 3 4-volt pre out. Right now, I'm thinking of buying another one to drive my MB Quart 325.02 front speakers. Ment told me that I have to look for amps which can accpet hi-volt output by thet head unit. pls help. thanks

Other amps have  both low inputs and high inputs...

You can use a Y-splitter naman eh, if you're already using the    low input RCAs, but if you're considering your fader control, you really should use the high inputs....

I'm not so sure about the resistance value for the resistor, which can be connected in series on the high inputs, to reduce its voltage and make it appear as a low input. :) I'll try researching on that... :)
If you don't have anything to do, don't do it here!  ;D :P

Most amps naman nowadays could accept 4-volt inputs.

When buying an amp, check the specs (i.e. input voltage) if it could handle the hot output signal of your head unit. But chances are it should :)

Chief rAImond:

Can you suggest amp brands? Budget is 5t or lower.

Btw, I have a friend who is selling his Coustic Amp (he'll e-mail me the pics and model maybe next week). all I know that he bought it around the latter part of the 90s. do those amp built that time accept 4-volt input?

A range should be found (i.e. 500 mv - 4v).

There are tolerances naman eh, if the amp is supposed to handle about 3v rms of max. input, siguro kakayanin niya pa ng mga hanggang 4v. The key kasi here is to feed the maximum, hot, undistorted signal sa iyong amp. But this is on a case to case basis.
