Hi everyone...

I am planning to buy a mini suv and I'm thinking of buying the Suzuki Jimny.
Would you guys recommend it? I plan to use it mainly on-road but would very much like to try off-roading...What are the pros and cons of buying this mini 4x4? If ever, which would be the best buy...JX or JLX?

What other mini suv would you recommend with budget considerations?

I would appreciate your valuable infos and recommendations. :)

Mikey:

The jimny is probably the most capable micro suv in the philippine market today.  The design  lends itself to serious off-roading (solid axles, ladder frame)if you decide to do that.  It also takes into consideration, the need for some degree of comfort (coil springs).  The engine is very economical due to its size and yet it is peppy enough for the city and capable of cross country duty.

It's strong point is also its weak point.  It is small and this can be a problem on long drives if you plan to have 4 adults in the vehicle. If there are 4 of you, there is hardly any room left for luggage.  If howvere, its just a trip for 2, then this is probably the most versatile vehicle out there.

As is, the vehicle is capable of taking you offroad into terrains you would not imagine possible and at the same time is capable of fitting in the smallest spaces on the crowded city streets.  Heck, you can even make your own parking space on top of curbs.

As to whether to get the JX or JLX, my opinion is as follows:

If you plan to leave the vehicle relatively stock and the budget allows, get the JLX because it already includes a lot of features (i.e. power windows, cloth seats, nicer interior and exterior, alloy rims) That way, bihis na siya.  konti nalang ang gagalawin mo kung gusto mo dagdagan.

If you plan to eventually turn it into a very serious offroad vehicle, get the JX because its cheaper, and has less electronic features that can go wrong in the long run when you subject the vehicle to the rigors of offroading.

If you plan to use it i the city a lot, get the matic.  This will allow you the utmost comfort of driving in traffic and it will still be very competent off-road.  Less to worry about if you're not seriously going to pursue offroading.

However, if you really enjoy rowing the gear shift, the 5-speed will allow you more versatility.  I hope this shed some light on your question.  I tried to be as thorough as possible.

By the way, another vehicle that would be worthwhile to consider and is also a good buy, would be the Vitara (older model).  the prices are competitive and the dealer will probably be more flexible with the price .  It is also as capable as the Jimny plus it has more room.  This is certainly a strong contender.  The only weak point I see on this model is since they are now assembled in the philippines, they are not as well built.  Some get rattles early in their life.  Nonetheless, it's worth considering.

Yeyet,

ako nga ito.  Is that your Sami that was posted here?  Ibang-iba na ang itsura.  With all the mods you listed there, I think its one of the best equipped sami's around.

Suzuki Philippines ba ang distributor nung Jimny wide or gray market?

back to mikey's concern.

you said you will be using your "mini-ute" mostly on roads and with only occasional off-roading.  The Jimny would be perfect.  I am not sure though if it is priced right (how much is it?).   That little truck can be driven off-road up to medium heavy trails without mods, except the tires.  Kung Bridgestone Dueler H/T yan, you definitely need a more agressive tire (i.e. a Yokohama Geolandar A/T, the common sizes are in 16" )

DTNS

donjie,

yup, Suzuki Philippines (under General Motors Phils) ang distributor ng Jimny.

as for its price, it is priced very reasonably. it ranges from P548T (JX) - P598T (JLX MT) - P640T (JLX AT)

Cura-San:

Pare, Nice to know you're still around.  Oo. the wolverine posted on this talkboard is mine.  Madami ng dinaanan kasi itong laruan ko kaya kailangan alagaan naman.

Yes the Jimny is distributed by Pilhino.  Gusto ko nga bumili uli kaya lang ang dami ko na ginastos sa Samurai ko eh.  Di bale baka mabuyo ko si Misis.  Lets wait and see.  Nice to hear from you.  Keep coming into this board okay.  Nandito sila Kits, Beeboy, Paolo, etc

Kits,

Wala akong off-roading activities dito.  Nasa Winnipeg kasi ako.  Ang mga off-road people ay nasa BC.  Pero marami Jeep dito.  You can get a good used YJ for $3,500 - $6,000 canadian.

Dapat noon pa pinasok ng Suzuki yang Jimny.  Takot lang sila noon.  May contact ka pa ba sa Suzuki?
