digital slim ballast issue
« on: November 09, 2010, 12:39:32 PM »
Goodmorning sirs i bought a hi/lo h4 hid w/ digital slim ballasts, now i've been using this for about 4 months. I previously had a normal ballast hid before i upgraded to this slim ones becuase they look cool and saves more space and btw they're now busted. Now im not sure what's wrong w/ the slim ones so heres the scenario, i'll start up my car then i will go for a drive, then after driving if i switch them off then try to switch them back on they will light up then after a few seconds will immediately switch off. Now after not using the hids for a few mins when i switch them back on they would then work fine. Need ur inputs and personal experiences w/ these digital slim ballast ones. My normal ballast before it broke down were not like this. Help sirs!

I don't use slim ballasts. however, I would suggest trying warranty claim if the HID's you bought still have.  ;)

Seems like an overheating issue. Like DTNS said, go and claim if still under warranty. If not, but a new set. Mura nalang naman HID nowadays.

There are two types of ballasts. Magnetic and Electronic. The "fat" or old "analog" daw type of ballasts are what we call magnetic ballasts and the new ones, slim, "digital" kuno ballasts are the electronic ballasts.  The magnetic ballasts are nothing more than a coil and core transformer.  It operates by using magnetic inductance to convert input power to lamp power.  The electronic ballast uses electronic components and operates using electronic switching.  It is more efficient than the magnetic type in converting input power to lamp power.  The electronic ballast is smaller and better than the magnetic type.  Maybe the issue here really is not on the types of the ballast but more on the quality of the ballasts we buy be it magnetic or electronic.
