accord mods
« on: February 03, 2003, 08:39:59 AM »
can anyone suggest economical modifications for a 94 accord Exi MT? my situation is that im using a company issued car kaya the modifications are under my own pocket's expense. I find the car too much of a gas guzzler compared to my previous Esi. I need the accord to improve on 2nd gear acceleration coz i find the first to second gear a far drop in engine rpm when shifting. line 3,500 at first = 2000 lang on second. for city driving it's a drag to be left in the pack by taxis and Fxs when i shift to 2nd at 1,200 rpm pa lang to save on gas. Highway driving is great with the car but even our highways here do not allow us to run at 160 KPH for more than 30 mins.

dude,

imo, start muna with the basic maintenance of the car, like major tune-up, change-oil. then check the clutch if its in good condition pa. u might be experiencing sliding clutch already. check din for other problems.

re: the accords fuel efficiency...our matic exi consumes 5-6km in city driving.

after that, u cud put in an aftermarket intake and other mods.  :)

Im doing 6-7.5 km/ltr already after all the tune ups and the clutch replacement. actually, the performance improved after 6000+kms since i handled the car from its previous driver, a colleague who left for the states. It used to do worse with premium engine oil but got better since i used semi-synthetic oil. anyway, thanks for the advice, maybe we could also share some other mods that may be cost-effective?

patrick,

6-7.5 km/liter is quite good na for a 2.0 car. about the mods, our accord is bone stock only. with the price of fuel today, its practical to have a fuel efficient car. but if u want to modify it, i suggest u get a knn drop-in filter. its a bit pricey for a filter but for sure it will be worth it.
