« on: January 24, 2003, 04:10:17 PM »
guys what can u say about this pick-up with the 4JB1 Turbo engine with regards to the ff:

1. turbo engine maintenance
2. ride quality ( i know it's a pick-up but is it better than worst)
3. fuel consumption
4. overall quality including isuzu's warranties and service

clyde,

Judging from my test drive of the Fuego LS 4x2 A/T last year:

engine maintenance - i think there are parts readily available since i think it shares some parts with the perennial 4JA1 engine of the Hilander. Sa turbo naman, siguro mas ok kung lalagyan ng turbo timer kasi it doesn't come standard.

ride quality - medyo malambot ng konti ito compared sa other pickup's like the Ranger.

fuel consumption - my rough estimate yielded 18-20 km/liter, mixed cycle driving. Ok na siguro for its displacement.

quality - well that depends on where you'll be buying the Fuego, but I heard so many good things about Isuzu Alabang (sa planta kasi iyong casa na iyon). Iyong ibang Isuzu dealers so-so lang.

HTH!

thanks rAImond. i really appreciate ur responses.

i'm planning to buy this one but on a later date sometime. medyo nangangarap muna kasi di pa tapos yung construction ng haybols ko. ;D ;D ;D

i really love this pick-up ever since.  lalo na sa condition ng weather diyan sa atin. i think it would be the best buy for my family. then hopefully a 318i  :P next.

for the fuel consumption, bet ako diyan. tried and tested ko na rin yung 4JB1(non-turbo) as a surplus engine with my brother's assembled AUV. super tipid talaga even with the aircon on all the time. easy cold starts and tested emissions - alang usok. i drive all the way from manila to la union down to my province in ifugao. that's an eleven-hour drive. it's a superb diesel engine.

what color do u think is nice? i'm thinking either black or red.

about the turbo timer? does isuzu install them at least to cover the warranty still?

tnx again.

clyde,

I've personally asked the product eng'g. manager of IPC during one of their events kung kelangan pa ng turbo timer ng mga isuzu turbo diesel engines (which, obviously, from our POV, is a must). Pero sabi niya "hindi na daw kelangan". Well it's our role here to stop that heresy spread like wild fire.

As much to our dismay, I'm afraid that the warranty would be voided due to the installation of a turbo timer. But there's a workaround for this. I've read in some other boards na meron na daw mga vehicle security systems w/ turbo timer function. Hehehe :)

As for colors, for me maganda ang green at red nung Fuego. If you're eyeing the 4x4 variant, merong "sonic yellow" variant (kakulay ng XUV). And there's your satin silver, which Isuzu had used to paint their entire vehicle line-up.

BTW me bagong variant ng Fuego. Dati kasi iyong 4x2 na 2.8 Turbo diesel comes in matic guise only, ngayon may manual tranny version na niya. Other goodies on this variant include a lift kit, slightly diff. face (grill, lights), and a chrome trim package.
