Very low oil level.. What are the effects?
« on: August 02, 2011, 08:04:17 PM »
My friend's  Honda Jazz 1.3 MT 2010 model already has 23000kms when I checked the oil levels. The oil was already super black and the oil level is just about 2 CM from the tip of the dipstick, well below the minimum oil level on the dipstick.

She said that the car has not yet been serviced since she got it and when the Fuel Consumtion was horrible and acceleration was bad that the only time she thought that there's something needs to be done on her car. So I had her change the oil and after that FC and acceleration improved.

Is there any possible long term damage on the engine while running the car for this long and not changing the oil? I'm not sure also if the oil from the factory is Fully Synthetic or just Mineral oil.

+1 on sludge.

also, maybe its a good time to utilize fully synthetic oils specially if your friend is not the religious maintenance kind of owner.

Thanks. She already used OEM Filter and Fully Synth oil. She is worried if there is any long term damage on her engine or if sludge has formed.

no way to find out except to use it for the long run. it should be a lesson to maintain the car more religiously.

When I was still a college student (a long time ago!  ;D) before leaving for Tagaytay I checked my oil level, it was above the minimum mark. After the trip when I got home I checked again and it was now below the minimum mark. End result - engine overhaul.

Wow maintenance free car. Wasn't she advised that the car needs to be brought to the dealer for preventive maintenance? She prevented maintenace. Hope theres no serious damage to the engine.

thats a-okay. no long term side effect as the engine is pretty new.
regarding sludge, will be removed by the fresh oil. just change the oil as soon as possible and do it every 5,000kms

use good quality oil. oem honda 10w-30 is good oil; also cheap

she might want to do a couple of consecutive drain/refills using mineral oil just to clean it out. then go back to full syn for the long duration changes.
