Steering gear shaft help
« on: April 07, 2011, 02:36:29 AM »
Guys, do know the reason why the lower oil seal part of the Steering gear shaft became rough? w/c btw caused the newly replaced oil seal to  damage easily and end up w/ a leaking steering gearbox . FYI, the entire surface of the shaft is shiny like chrome except from the said part of the shaft(lower oil seal part of the Steering gear shaft). i mean, what do you think made the shaft became partly rough on the oil seal part? and how can i go about resolving it. thanks much

the scratches normally come from the oil seals wearing out and scratching it or keeping it from hitting some other metal part. you can have it rechromed but sometimes it's better to just order a new shafting.

The mechanic actually took it to a machine shop wherein they resurfaced the shaft... you said getting new shaft is better, do you know the price range of getting a new one and quotation of rechroming? thanks much
