After a two-year hiatus, the Mitsubishi L300 has officially made a comeback. Now powered by a newer and cleaner engine, it is set to become the backbone once more of small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC), however, has also brought their newest workhorse that can also cater to SMEs. Say hello to the Traviz, Isuzu's lightweight truck that is ready to go head-to-head with the likes of the Mitsubishi L300, Kia K2500 and Hyundai H-100.
First revealed as the VT02 during the 2018 Philippine International Motor Show, the Traviz is built in Indonesia and is based off the Isuzu Traga. Touted as the future of business mobility, the all-new Traviz can be configured in a wide variety of settings like a closed utility van, Class 1 PUV, aluminum van, refrigerated van, and as a dropside truck.
Depending on one's needs, the Traviz is available in two body styles; the S and the L. The former measures 4450mm long and has a 2250mm wheelbase. Meanwhile, the latter comes in at 4600mm long and comes with a 2400mm wheelbase. However, both have similar width and height dimensions that measure 1695mm and 1955mm respectively.
Need to lug heavy loads? The Traviz S is capable of carrying 1660 kg worth of payload. The Traviz L, on the other hand, can carry 1655 kg worth of cargo. It also has a claimed best-in-class turning radius of 4.5 meters (4.6 for the L), and an interior cab width of 1490mm.
Providing in-car entertainment is an AM/FM radio that comes with USB and Aux support, and a two-speaker sound system. Air-conditioning is also available as an option for those that prefer a cool cabin. It also has a tachometer, and a a multi-info display that can show the tripmeter, fuel level, engine temperature, and odometer.
Powering the Traviz is a 2.5-liter 4JA1 BluePower direct-injection diesel. If the name sounds familiar, it is because the engine was derived from the Crosswind AUV. It puts out 78 PS at 3900 rpm, along with 176.5 Nm of torque at 1800 rpm, and is Euro 4 compliant. Power is then sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox.
The 2020 Isuzu Traviz is available with a suggested retail price of Php 962,000 for the Traviz S, and Php 992,000 for the slightly bigger Traviz L.
