The Technical Working Group (TWG) that comprises of the MMDA, Cabinet Secretary, LTFRB and other concerned agencies have announced a new traffic scheme to be implemented along EDSA, Metro Manila’s main thoroughfare. An APEC-lane inspired traffic barrier system will be installed for the bus lanes key areas to help alleviate traffic.

The affected portion of EDSA will be the Southbound lanes from Shaw Boulevard to Ayala Avenue.

"The bus lanes on EDSA will prioritize commuter traffic which means those riding the buses. We have opened Mabuhay Lanes for private vehicles convenience, therefore we are not shortchanging them with this new scheme," said Cabinet Secretary Rene Almendras.

There will also be a Holiday Non-Stop Bus Service which will feature twenty (20) buses with scheduled Point 2 Point (P2P) format to ferry passengers from key points in Metro Manila in hopes to alleviate traffic on EDSA, the metro’s main thoroughfare. This service will operate from December 5, 2015 until January 6, 2016 to help decongest EDSA traffic by encouraging car owners to park their cars in selected malls and use the bus instead between Quezon City, Artigas Center and Makati.

There will be three routes for the Holiday Non-Stop Bus Service:


Route A1: Trinoma (North EDSA)--Park Square Terminal, Ayala Center (fare = P80) [6 units—Genesis Transport]

Route A2: SM North EDSA--Glorietta 5, Ayala Center (fare = P80) [10 units—Froehlich Tours]

Route B: SM Megamall--Park Square Terminal, Ayala Center (fare = P50) [4 units—Genesis Transport]

Daily operation; no standing passengers - Buses operate non-stop; buses load only at off-street areas

- One bus every half hour on weekdays between 6:30 am to 8:30 am and from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm in the direction of the demand

- Makati-bound buses can unload passengers on Ayala Avenue at the normal unloading bus stops on Ayala

Bus operators are urged to display identifying sign/sticker at all times while mall operators should provide clear signage at the dispatch site and around the mall to identify where passengers can board the buses. To avoid clogging or overcrowding the buses, passengers should be able to buy a bus ticket and be assured of a seat on the bus Lastly, dispatch scheduled should be displayed at loading areas and bus operators should take note if the vehicle is already full or not.
