The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has started enforcing the new bus segregation scheme along the stretch of EDSA today. It will cover all 3,100 city buses plying EDSA from Magallanes Interchange to East Avenue intersection and vice versa but will not be imposed on provincial buses.

Under the program, buses that pass through EDSA have been tagged as Bus A, B, or C to minimize traffic congestion along the thoroughfare, particularly in loading and unloading areas.

MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino warned: "We have given bus operators sufficient time to have their bus units tagged, so buses that have not been tagged, or those that have no stickers, will not be allowed on Edsa."

MMDA dispatchers have already been instructed not to allow bus units that are not 'tagged' to leave the four Organized Bus Route (OBR) terminals.

Buses A and B can only use their designated A and B bus stops respectively while buses tagged as 'C' will be allowed to use all bus stops but will be having a significantly longer travel time compared to buses A and B.

Bus A will stop at the following loading and unloading bays painted in red:

  • Northbound: Magallanes, Buendia, Guadalupe, Shaw Blvd., SM Megamall, Boni Serrano, Cubao Farmers, and Ermin Garcia.
  • Southbound: Ermin Garcia, Arayat Cubao, VV Soliven, Connecticut, Shaw Starmall, Guadalupe, Buendia Ave., and Mantrade.

Bus B will stop at the following loading and unloading bays painted in blue:

  • Northbound: Ayala Ave., Estrella, Pioneer / Boni, SM Megamall, Ortigas Ave., Main Ave., and Baliwag / 5 Star.
  • Southbound: Kamuning, Monte de Piedad, Main Ave., POEA Ortigas, Pioneer / Boni, Estrella, and Ayala Ave.

According to Tolentino, southbound buses which are marked 'A' are allowed to take the Kamuning-Timog, Santolan, and Ortigas flyovers. Northbound buses which are marked 'B' shall be allowed at the Santolan flyover, while those marked 'A' can use Ortigas and Timog-Kamuning flyover.

"We are optimistic that this enhanced bus segregation system will decongest Edsa significantly," Tolentino added.
