A few months ago, Daimler Truck, Toyota Motor Corporation, Hino Motors, and Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation, have all agreed to merge Hino and Fuso into a new, jointly-held truck company.

Fast forward to the present, and the new holding company has been given a name. It will be called Archion, which will commence operations by the start of fiscal year 2026.

The name “Archion” came from the words “arches” and “eons”, which represent both the connection between the two companies and their common goal of creating the future of transportation.

Under the Archion company, Fuso and Hino trucks will have shared platforms. By combining the strengths of both brands, it aims to enhance product competitiveness, improve cost efficiency, and enable faster product launches while maintaining the characteristics of each brand.

This also results in better economies of scale as the shared platform optimizes business strategies and consolidates production sites for better plant efficiency. From five production sites, the formation of Archion consolidates manufacturing into three locations – the Kawasaki, Koga, and Nitta plants. Hino’s Hamura plant will be transferred to Toyota Motor Corporation, while Mitsubishi Fuso’s Nakatsu Plant operations will be consolidated at the Kawasaki Plant.

The cooperation also leverages Toyota’s fuel cell technologies for use in both Hino and Fuso trucks to develop products across all the zero-emissions EV segments.

As reported previously, Mitsubishi Fuso CEO Karl Deppen will also be the CEO and Representative Director of Archion, while Hino Motors CEO Satoshi Ogiso has been named CTO and Executive Director. Hetal Laligi, the CFO of Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation, will also have a CFO role at Archion in addition to being Representative Director.

Archion’s business will commence on April 1, 2026.
