Unlike passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles like trucks don’t change models very often.
That's why when manufacturers release a new model, the changes are very extensive. Take the 2021 Fuso Canter for example. This all-new model features a heavily revised front cab, giving it a unique and sleeker look as compared to its predecessor. For a more modern touch, the upswept headlights are now LED units as standard while the fog lights can be upgraded to LED units too.
Apart from the pretty face, the new Canter is loaded with safety features too. In fact, it has tech which could get rid of the usual “nawalan ng preno” excuse used by erring truck drivers in the country. That’s because it comes standard with an Advanced Emergency Braking System (AEBS) which detects both pedestrians and vehicles. If the system detects the risk of a possible collision, the brakes are automatically applied.
Together with AEBS, another unique feature available on the 2021 Canter is Active Sideguard Assist (ASA). This system monitors the driver’s blind spot through the use of radar. It then warns the driver with an alert signal and lamps whenever it detects any risks while the driver is making a turn.
Other features of the new Canter include Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS). In Japan, the truck can even be fitted with Fuso’s Truckonnect system, allowing customers to check real-time vehicle information such as location, operating route, as well as vehicle status. For easy ingress and egress, the truck gets a smart key too.
Just like before, the new Canter is available in various configurations depending on your needs. The new 3.0-liter 4P10 engine also comes in various stages of tune, from 110 PS to 175 PS, and is mated to an automated-manual transmission (AMT). It’s a clean truck to run as well considering it is Euro-VI rated.
The Canter is no doubt one capable truck as it is. How capable you ask? We did a review of the 2019 Canter FE71 10-Footer last year which you can check out.
Hopefully, it won’t take too long before we see this sweet-looking Canter light truck arrives in the Philippines, along with its bevy of advanced safety features.
