A few days ago, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority announced that the truck ban policy is back in Metro Manila. With it, trucks and big rigs will once again have to follow the truck ban hours imposed by the MMDA.

There was no mention, however, whether light trucks will be part of the ban, until now.

Starting May 24, the MMDA will reimpose the ban on light trucks along EDSA, as well as on Shaw Boulevard. This means light trucks with a gross capacity of 4,500 kg will be banned from traversing the aforementioned roads during certain hours.

From 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM, light trucks are prohibited from taking EDSA from Magallanes in Makati City to North Avenue in Quezon City (northbound and southbound). Meanwhile, light trucks are banned from plying along Shaw Boulevard from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM, and from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

As before, the light truck ban covers all light trucks with the above-stated weight, having six or more tires, and the payload area either enclosed or open. The ban is applicable to both commercial and non-commercial light trucks. Lastly, the uniform light truck ban runs from Monday to Saturday, except for Sundays and holidays.

With the ban returning next week, logistics companies and businesses that rely on light trucks will have to plot out their hours of delivery. Failure to follow the policy will result in a hefty PHP 2,000 fine.
