Expect a lot less trucks clogging up EDSA as the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) tries out a new regulation for the next three months.

Starting March 15 until June 15, 2017, the MMDA will disallow trucks with a gross capacity of 4,500 kilograms and below from traversing EDSA and Shaw Boulevard from 6AM to 10AM and 5PM to 10PM.

This, after the Metro Manila Council (composed of 17 mayors from the cities that make up the metropolis) approved the new regulation in order to reduce the footprint these trucks eat up along EDSA and Shaw Boulevard.

The regulation will be enforced from Monday to Saturday except on Sunday and on holidays. Violators will be fined Php 2,000. Exempted from the ban are government and emergency vehicles such as firetrucks and ambulances.

Light trucks used for commercial nature that needs to be delivered immediately may apply for exemption.

“This is only one of the several measures that has been approved by the local executives during the meeting in an effort to further improve traffic condition in Metro Manila,” said MMDA General Manager Thomas Orbos.
