An all-new truck brand has arrived in the Philippines and it wants to help companies make the most out of their haulers while also reducing downtime.
Say hello to UD Trucks and their medium-duty hauler, the Croner. Named after Chronos, the Greek god of time, the Croner was built and designed to excel in the medium-duty segment as well as to be reliable and easy-to-service.
“In the last few years, UD Trucks has seen tremendous growth especially in Southeast Asia, in some key markets like Philippines. I strongly believe that the combination of the Japanese heritage of UD Trucks, the local ‘Gemba’ spirit where value is created and the strong support from the Volvo Group, UD Trucks can definitely bring customers’ success to the next level. Philippines is a market where UD Trucks has historically been strong, where it has since long ago earned customers’ trust across the nation,” said Steve Hedouin, Managing Director of UD Trucks Philippines.
A total of two body styles are available in the Croner. First up is the LKE which was designed as a multi-purpose medium-duty truck for in-city and city-to-city transportation. This one is capable of handling a total gross vehicle weight of 12 – 14 tons. Finally, there's the PKE which serves as the most powerful hauler in the Croner line. It can carry a total of 15 – 17 tons in gross vehicle weight and was designed for regional / long haul transport of goods.
Depending on the model, the Croner is available with two turbo-diesel engines. First is the 5.0-liter inline-four GH5E which is available in 180 PS with 750 Nm all the way to 240 PS and 900 Nm of torque. For heavier lifting and carrying, there's the bigger 8.0-liter inline-six GH8E that comes in two states of tune: 250 PS with 950 Nm of torque, and 280 PS with 1050 Nm. A choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmissions are available for all Croner models, although the PKE can come with a nine-speed manual gearbox.
Aside from being able to carry various types of heavy loads, UD Trucks also come with several covenience and safety features for the driver. These include: cruise control, digital multi-info display with fuel coaching meter, and a speed limiter for a safer and more fuel efficient drive. It even comes with an optional air suspension system which can keep payloads safe from rough road conditions.
Those concerned about maintenance will be glad to know UD Trucks has the Extra Mile support service. It features a comprehensive set of aftersales support like: UD Genuine Service and Parts, UD Driver Training, and UD Trust Service Agreements. These were developed in order to keep the trucks in optimum condition so as to save time over the years. The company also offers telematics solution which can provide customers real-time information and reports to improve their fleets' operations and performance.
