Report: MMPC to launch Mirage... as a sedan

It's been barely two months since Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation launched the all-new Mitsubishi Mirage 5-door hatchback in grand style. The momentous occasion marked Mitsubishi's renewed assault on the Passenger Car (PC) segment, and was even graced by the presence of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation's president, Mr. Osamu Masuko.

However, there's more to the story with the Mirage. If you've heard of rumors that a sedan version is coming, well, it's true. We can confirm through a source that MMPC's hot selling hatchback will be joined by a sedan version later this year.

With the hatchback version selling flying off dealerships at rapid rates (they did have a 2000+ waiting list), a sedan version will only strengthen the little car's position in the market. Expect more of the same technologies such as the 1.2 liter MIVEC Inline-3 engine, CVT transmissions, DVD Navigation and other niceties to be packaged with the Mirage sedan, as well as the trunk space associated with 3-box designs.

The Mitsubishi Mirage sedan will reportedly be revealed at the 2013 New York Auto Show in March.

Currently, the Toyota Vios (in production since late 2006) is the dominant force in the B-Car segment. Could the Mirage sedan challenge the class sales leader as well as industry sales leader? We'll find out later this year.
