2024 Audi Q8 lets you choose your lighting signature
Audi adds individualized lighting signatures, updated equipment to new Q8
Have you ever wanted to shine the light in your own way? The question does not make much sense as a sentence, but Audi found a way to make it happen with the updated mid-size luxury crossover SUV, the new Q8.
On top of its list of upgrades is the addition of a new lighting system. High-intensity LED headlights are standard, but available as an option are HD (high-definition) Matrix LED headlights. It uses the Audi laser along with its 24 LEDs and high-power laser diode to emit blue ambient light as an additional high beam.
But what you will want to hear about is the digital daytime running light signatures that allow the user to select one of four individual light signatures via the MMI (multi-media interface). The rear also gets digital OLED lights that activate when vehicles from behind come within two meters (6.6 ft) of the stationary Q8. Additional functions include dynamic turn signals as well as various coming home and leaving home sequences.
Less is more for Audi, which is why it has systematically reduced the decorative elements for an even more puristic design. What the marque added is a new exhaust system and the two-dimensional rings that debuted in the Q8 e-tron. For the wheel range, customers have a choice of five new wheel designs, with sizes ranging from 21 to 23 inches.
Inside, Audi retouched the cabin surfaces to give the new Q8 a more premium look. The seams on the seat trim in the base model now come as standard in a contrasting gray color. It gets nine decorative inlays that include Fine grain ash natural silver for the standard model, Carbon twill matt, and Aluminum linear silver grey for the Q8 featuring the S line sport package, as well as for the SQ8 TFSI1.
Three new finishes have also been added – Sakhir Gold, Ascari Blue, and Chili Red. Techies will love that the infotainment system can now run third-party apps like Spotify or Amazon.
Three engine options are available in the new Q8 - a 3.0-liter diesel engine with 231 PS and 500 Nm of torque, a six-cylinder Otto-cycle gas engine with 3.0-liters of displacement and direct fuel injection that delivers 340 PS with 500 Nm of torque, and a 4.0-liter TFSI twin-turbo V8 with 507 PS and 770 Nm of torque.
The new Audi Q8 is now available in Europe, and it starts at 86,700 euros or PHP 5.3 million (minus taxes and import duties). When it gets here, the price will likely still be up in the air, but we are excited to see the effect of its individualized lighting system on Philippine roads (and traffic).
