Refreshed Kia Seltos gets more than just an exterior and interior update
After announcing they will be giving us a glimpse of the 2024 Seltos this week, Kia distributor AC Motors has officially revealed the refreshed B-segment crossover for the Philippine market.
Featuring a more dynamic-looking exterior, a more high-tech & feature-packed interior, as well as a slew of new engines under the hood, the updated Seltos is set to make a name for itself in the hotly-contested segment. It’s also set to go up against its closest sibling, the Hyundai Creta.
Beginning with its looks, the headlights have been heavily redesigned for the 2024 facelift and evoke a bolder and sportier appearance. Even the distinctly styled grille has been revised to give the crossover a sleeker appearance. Other changes at the front include new LED daytime running lights (DRLs), vertical LED foglights (higher grade models only), and a tweaked front bumper that’s accompanied by a new skid plate.
Around the back, Kia gave the 2024 Seltos a new LED lightbar along with sharper-looking LED taillights which further highlight the vehicle’s sportier looks. And just like the front fascia, the rear bumper also gets a skid plate for extra flair.
Other exterior features present on the updated Seltos are 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 215/60 tires, power-folding side mirrors, LED headlights (halogen on lower variants), chrome/body-colored door handles, LED/halogen foglights, and beltline moldings finished in either black or satin metal.
Size-wise, the 2024 Seltos measures 4385mm long, 1800mm wide, and 1620mm tall (1635mm with the roof rails). It also has a generous 2630mm wheelbase and a ground clearance of 190mm.
Hop inside and the Seltos gets a more stylish and futuristic-looking cabin. Starting with what the driver gets, the base model LX and mid-range EX get a 4.2-inch multi-info display. Meanwhile, the range-topping SX comes with a wide 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster that also incorporates the multi-info display.
The controls for the HVAC have been redesigned as well to fit with the Seltos’ refreshed look. Lesser models come with a single-zone automatic climate control while the higher-grade variants get dual-zone automatic climate control. Depending on the variant chosen, the crossover can come with either cloth seats or full leather upholstery. In addition, the SX comes with a power-adjustable driver’s seat while the rest of the lineup only gets manual adjustment.
Other available features on the 2024 Seltos include; a panoramic sunroof, a wireless charging pad, 60:40 split rear seats, smart keyless entry, push-button start, LED ambient lighting, and a tilt/telescoping steering column.
Infotainment in the 2024 Seltos comes in two forms. The LX and EX are fitted with an 8-inch touchscreen while the top-spec SX is equipped with a bigger 10.25-inch touchscreen system. Despite the size difference, both come with Android Auto, wireless Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, and USB connectivity. All variants, meanwhile, get a 6-speaker sound system.
Under the hood, the 2024 Seltos is available with two powertrain options. First is the 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated Smartstream engine that makes 115 PS at 6300 rpm and 144 Nm of torque at 4500 rpm. It is then paired with an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). If this particular setup looks familiar, that’s because this powertrain is also the same one found in the Hyundai Creta.
Next is the 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with direct injection. Despite having a smaller displacement, this particular engine makes 140 PS at 6000 rpm along with a generous 242 Nm of torque between 1500 to 3200 rpm. Instead of an IVT driving the front wheels, the 1.4-liter turbo is married to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission with selectable drive modes.
When it comes to safety features, all variants get a pair of airbags at the front, anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, ISOFIX child seat anchors, rear parking sensors, and a reverse camera. The top-of-the-line SX, however, gets two additional front side airbags, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) that include; adaptive cruise control with stop & go (lesser models get regular cruise control), lane-keeping assist, lane-following assist, and forward collision avoidance assist.
Available colors for the 2024 Kia Seltos are; Gravity Gray, Pluton Blue, and Snow White Pearl (black roof optional). The 2024 Seltos is now available at Kia's 46 dealerships nationwide.
