2026 GWM Tank 300 officially revealed; PHEV can do 200 km
Refreshed GWM Tank 300 is bigger and more high-tech than ever
Remember when pictures of the refreshed GWM Tank 300 were first revealed by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT)? Well, the automaker has decided to officially let the cat out of the bag after GWM posted the official pictures and some of the specifications of the updated 4x4.
As seen before, the refreshed Tank 300 looks marginally bigger. That’s because GWM actually stretched its dimensions. Based on the documents the MIIT has released, the refreshed 4x4 now measures 4886mm long, 1984mm wide, and 1927mm tall on a 3010mm wheelbase. In comparison, the current GWM Tank 300 measures 4760mm long, 1930mm wide, and has a shorter 2750mm wheelbase.

Thanks to the upgraded chassis and new dimensions, the Tank 300 now has shorter overhangs and a better approach angle, which can be seen in the exterior pictures. Suspension-wise, the updated Tank 300 will likely still come with an independent setup, with the front getting double wishbones, while the rear gets a multi-link live axle. A rear differential lock will likely be a standard feature, while a front locking diff may be offered as an option.
Design-wise, the official pictures reflect what we saw last week. The updated Tank 300 now comes with a new grille with the “T A N K” brand spelled out across the front fascia. The grille itself, meanwhile, now has a honeycomb design, which replaces the horizontal bars from before. Also getting some changes are the bumpers, which now feature a more rugged design to go along with the Tank 300’s larger dimensions.

Perhaps one of the most important upgrades is the set of side vents near the front fenders, which will allow users to install additional equipment or gear like a snorkel without having to cut into the bodywork. Along with the new standard fasteners, those who like to dress up and install 4x4 equipment on the rigs can easily set up their vehicles with less hassle.
No powertrain specifications have been revealed just yet. However, the updated Tank 300 will likely be available with various powertrain options. These include a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant, which will reportedly have a massive 60 kWh battery pack. On a full charge, GWM says the Tank 300 PHEV can cover up to 200 km. Meanwhile, its combined range will likely exceed 1,000 km.

When it comes to internal combustion engines, the refreshed Tank 300 could still be offered with a 2.4L turbo-diesel that makes 184 PS with 490 Nm of torque, a 2.0L turbo-gas that puts out 220 PS with 380 Nm of torque, a 3.0L twin-turbo V6 that generates 360 PS with 500 Nm of torque, and a 2.0L turbo hybrid that cranks out 351 PS and 615 Nm of torque. Depending on the variant, the Tank 300 can come with either an 8-speed or a 9-speed automatic gearbox with a part-time 4WD system.
Pre-sales of the GWM Tank 300 is expected to begin next week, which means the PRC will get first dibs on the refreshed 4x4. Meanwhile, global markets might get their hands on the updated Tank 300 later this year. We’re hoping GWM Philippines plans to bring the updated Tank 300 with HEV, turbo-diesel, and PHEV powertrains.
