If there was one model of the all-new Toyota RAV4 we weren't expecting, it's the GR Sport. Yes, the European market already got first dibs on the dressed-up version of the compact crossover SUV based on the outgoing generation, but that was exclusive only to the Old Continent.

For the sixth-generation model, Toyota decided to make it available for the global market. Not only does the GR Sport serve as the most powerful version of the all-new RAV4, but it also comes with plenty of goodies, inside and out, as well as some chassis upgrades.

Starting with the exterior bits, the GR Sport gets a GR Corolla-inspired grille complete with blacked-out elements. It is then complemented by massive 20-inch alloy wheels that appear to resemble the ones used in the GR Supra. In case you haven't noticed it yet, the RAV4 GR Sport is available in a distinct hue called Supersonic Red that's paired with a black roof.

Hop inside and the RAV4 comes with Gazoo Racing goodies like GR Sport leather-wrapped seats with red piping, red contrast stitching, and a GR Sport logo on the steering wheel. It may not be much, but we're guessing Toyota went for the subtle approach in dressing up the sporty crossover.

Toyota was also busy giving the RAV4 GR Sport better handling courtesy of a GR-tuned suspension. It also gets an improved power steering system and increased body rigidity that helps in delivering a more agile driving experience. The automaker did not go into much detail, although we'll be curious to try should Toyota Motor Philippines brings the RAV4 GR Sport here in the country.

Last but not least, the RAV4 GR Sport is powered by a 2.5L plug-in hybrid (PHEV) four-cylinder engine. It's assisted by a pair of electric motors and a high-capacity battery pack, which gives it a total system output of 324 PS. Total torque output was not revealed, although the previous generation PHEV can generate up to 475 Nm of pull. That said, we won't be surprised if the all-new GR Sport makes more than 500 Nm of torque.

When compared to the GR Corolla and PH-spec GR Yaris, which make 300 PS with 400 Nm of torque and 290 PS with 390 Nm of torque, respectively, the RAV4 GR Sport PHEV eclipses both hot hatches in sheer power output. Toyota has yet to reveal performance figures for the all-new RAV4 GR Sport PHEV, although we'll be keeping our eyes peeled once the automaker releases them.

With Toyota wanting to make hybrids and plug-in hybrids fun to drive, we will be waiting with high hopes that Toyota Motor PH brings the all-new RAV4 to the country, including the GR Sport model.
