The final BMW Z4 rolled off the production line in Graz, Austria, in May 2026, bringing an end to the roadster's latest generation. But while BMW has closed the book on the Z4, Andreas Bovensiepen and his team have found a way to give the car a second life.

Presenting the Bovensiepen Spider, a limited-production sports car from the family behind Alpina and essentially a 435 PS farewell to BMW's recently discontinued roadster.

The name should sound familiar to BMW enthusiasts. Burkard Bovensiepen founded Alpina in 1965, building the family business into one of the most respected names in BMW performance. BMW eventually acquired Alpina, with the final transfer completed at the beginning of 2026.

Rather than walk away from the BMW world, the Bovensiepen family started a new company under its own name, and the Spider is its third creation.

The familiar 3.0L turbocharged inline-six remains under the hood, but Bovensiepen has given it more breathing room with a performance intake and exhaust system upgrade.

The result is 435 PS and 580 Nm of torque, up from the European-spec Z4 M40i's 340 PS. That extra muscle cuts its 0–100 km/h sprint to 4.2 seconds, down from 4.5 seconds in the standard M40i.

Power is sent through the familiar ZF 8-speed automatic transmission. Unfortunately for three-pedal enthusiasts, the six-speed manual that BMW offered late in the Z4's life isn't available for the Spider.

The Spider gets retuned dampers, lightweight forged wheels, and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, while the chassis can be further upgraded with an optional Performance Package.

That package adds an aluminum differential cover designed to improve cooling, an underbody V-brace, and raises the top-speed limiter from 260 km/h to 295 km/h.

A larger brake package is also available for owners planning to use their Spider more aggressively.

Styling changes are deliberately restrained and subtle, which isn't surprising given the company's Alpina heritage.

Designed with the help of renowned designer Frank Stephenson, the Spider receives bespoke fender vents, a gloss-black front splitter, side skirts, a larger rear spoiler, and distinctive 20-inch forged wheels.

Inside, the Z4's cabin gets a more luxurious treatment with Vernasca leather and Alcantara, while the steering wheel is wrapped in Bovensiepen's premium Lavalina leather.

For buyers with deeper pockets, the company's personalization program can go considerably further, including custom paint, bespoke upholstery, and additional leather or Alcantara trim.

And like the most exclusive Alpina creations of old, the Spider won't be something you'll see parked at every corner.

Bovensiepen plans to build just 99 examples, with German pricing starting at EUR 115,500 (around PHP 8.37 million) including taxes. Production is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2027.

Ironically, BMW may have ended the Z4, but its former Alpina builders aren't ready to let the formula die.
