Buying a classic Land Cruiser is already an adventure. But what if the adventure started in Japan, where your Toyota was built?

Despite opening a dealership in California, Japanese automotive specialist Flex is taking the JDM buying experience a step further with an adventure designed for Land Cruiser enthusiasts. U.S. customers who purchase one of its JDM Land Cruisers can fly to Japan, meet their new Toyota, and drive it through some of the country’s scenic destinations before it is shipped home.

With more than 50 years of experience, Flex specializes in customizing 1990s and 2000s Toyota Land Cruisers, particularly the 80 and 100 Series. Its “Renoca” builds combine modern mechanicals and creature comforts with retro styling inspired by the classic FJ60, highlighted by a signature front fascia with a vintage grille and round headlights.

The transformation goes beyond the retro-swapped looks. Customers can personalize their Renoca with custom paint, refurbished interiors, suspension upgrades, and new wheels and tires, allowing each Land Cruiser to reflect its owner’s preferences and intended use.

The weeklong Japanese adventure takes guests from Tokyo to Yamanashi and Nagoya, including a visit to the Toyota Museum, before heading north to Hokkaido. There, guests can visit Flex’s Sapporo store and explore the Tokachi region in a Toyota HiAce camper van, while staying in a cabin along the way.

Flex says the itinerary is only a suggested route and can be adjusted around each customer’s preferred destinations, driving experiences, and schedule. It is also not a conventional group tour, giving guests plenty of freedom to explore Japan at their own pace.

The experience alone costs JPY 2.7 million (around USD 17,000 or PPH 1,033,268) for two people, covering accommodations, meals, planned activities, and transportation within Japan. Flights between the U.S. and Japan are not included, however.

It’s certainly an expensive way to take delivery of a Land Cruiser, but for enthusiasts, the experience offers something money can’t easily buy: the chance to meet a resto-modded JDM classic in its homeland, drive it through Japan, and bring it home with a story that goes far beyond the shop.
