Chery Philippines is expanding its crossover range with the (virtual) launch of the Tiggo 7 Pro. With that, the Chinese automaker now has five crossovers on offer in the country.
In terms of size and positioning, the Tiggo 7 Pro slots in between the standard Tiggo 7 and the Tiggo 8. The tale of the tape reveals dimensions of 4,470 mm long, 1,837 mm wide, and 1,670 mm tall. With measurements like that, it seems that Chery's latest crossover is aimed squarely at the likes of the Honda HR-V and Toyota Corolla Cross.
The 2021 Tiggo 7 Pro features the latest design language of Chery. Sharp lines and angles define the front end of the crossover, and it also follows the current trend of large grilles for that bit more road presence.
Compared to the front end, the sides of the Tiggo 7 Pro are more subtle. The fenders and doors see soft curves and gentle lines with little in the way of rakish angles. That said, there are two interesting design details on the flanks. The third window kinks upwards, while the D-pillar comes with a floating roof design.
As for the rear, it takes some cues from the larger Tiggo 8. There are the slim LED taillights connected by an illuminated panel, along with a wide tailgate and two character lines. Like most Chery crossovers, the license plate holder is mounted on the bumper instead of the tailgate.
There is more inspiration from the Tiggo 8 when you step inside the Tiggo 7 Pro. It comes with a digital instrument cluster and a floating infotainment screen. Also, the climate control is a black touch panel with two physical dials. If anything, it's something you'd see in a Land Rover. Then again, Jaguar Land Rover's partner in China is Chery.
Now, for the engine, and it uses a 1.5-liter turbo mill. It's good for 145 PS and 230 Nm of torque, which makes the Tiggo 7 Pro the torquiest model in its segment. Instead of a dual-clutch transmission, the crossover shifts with a continuously variable transmission with nine simulated gears.
Prices are yet to be determined, but we can expect it to undercut the competition.
