Hyundai unveils Stargazer X with SUV styling

Hyundai already has the Stargazer as its contender in the 7-seater MPV class, but apparently, the manufacturer wants to get a bigger slice of the pie.

Revealed at the 2023 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show is the Hyundai Stargazer X. Essentially, this is their answer to the likes of the Honda BR-V, the Suzuki XL7, the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross, and the Toyota Veloz.

The Stargazer X caters to those who want a Stargazer with SUV styling and slightly higher ground clearance. For starters, the Stargazer X features larger grille slots in its front fascia, complete with bigger bumper overriders painted in silver for a more rugged look.

It also receives some aesthetic enhancements like front and rear overfenders, roof rails, a tailgate spoiler as well as a new rear bumper with silver accents on its under garnish. Finishing off the exterior look is a set of 18-inch two-tone alloys wrapped in low-profile tires.

Inside, the Stargazer X has the familiar layout of the Stargazer MPV, but it now features the updated dashboard with black accents on the infotainment system and digital gauge cluster housing. Along with the improved dashboard look are digital controls for the A/C system, as well as an electronic parking brake with auto brake hold.

As we've previously seen from the standard Stargazer, the Stargazer X comes with wireless charging, wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay plus multiple cupholders and storage pockets around the MPV. But now, it also gets a premium sound system from Bose and an integrated Emergency SOS button.

The Indonesia-spec version of the Stargazer X was also revealed with captain seats for the second row, something that Hyundai Motor Philippines teased back at the 2023 Manila International Auto Show.

Underneath the hood is the same 1.5-liter Smartstream G four-cylinder gasoline engine found on the standard Stargazer. It makes 115 PS and 144 Nm of torque paired to Hyundai's Intelligent Variable Transmission powering the front wheels.

Meanwhile, the brakes have also been upgraded for the Stargazer X. From a front disc brake and rear drum combo in the standard Stargazer, the SUV-styled Hyundai comes with four wheel disc brakes.

As expected, it comes with ABS and EBD as standard, along with multiple airbags and Hyundai's SmartSense advanced driver assist systems.

Now that Hyundai has launched the Stargazer X in Indonesia, HMPH says we should expect the SUV-styled MPV to arrive in the country sometime in Q4 2023.
