To say that the Sealion 6 is BYD's most popular model in the Philippines is an understatement. Ever since it was launched over two years ago, the BYD Sealion 6's PHP 1.598M price tag, energy efficiency, and long list of features essentially popularized plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) for the masses.

While competition is growing from other Chinese and legacy brands, the BYD Sealion 6 continues to be one of the brand's most popular offerings in the crossover PHEV segment. In the future, however, BYD may want to watch its back.

Nissan has just revealed the first images of the NX7, and it is the sibling to another Nissan-Dongfeng vehicle, the midsize NX8 crossover SUV. The NX8 is available either as an EV or as a PHEV, but the NX7 is expected to be a PHEV only, albeit smaller compared to the NX8. In fact, the NX8 measures 4870mm long, 1920mm wide, and 1680mm tall on a 2917mm wheelbase.

Despite the size difference, the NX7 largely shares the exterior design of the NX8, but gets some subtle changes here and there, like a slightly different set of LED headlights and unique bumpers. However, powertrain specifications have yet to be revealed...until now.

The PRC's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released some of the specifications and details of the all-new Nissan NX7. Based on the available info, the Nissan NX7 has a PHEV powertrain consisting of a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine. The engine mostly serves as an onboard generator to charge the 40.95 kWh battery pack and to assist the electric motor, which puts out 231 PS.

On battery power alone, Nissan claims the NX7 can cover up to 225 km without using a single drop of fuel, based on the CLTC cycle. The automaker has yet to reveal its combined system range, but we won't be surprised if it can do over 1,000 km on a full tank and with a fully charged battery.

In terms of size, the NX7 measures 4785mm long, 1932mm wide, and 1665mm tall on a 2815mm wheelbase. This makes the NX7 slightly smaller than the NX8 and is considered a compact crossover SUV. Depending on the variant chosen, the NX7 will be available with two wheel options: 18-inch alloys wrapped in 245/60 series tires and 19-inch alloys with 235/55 series tires.

There are no details yet about the Nissan NX7's launch. But given that the People's Republic has already released the initial specifications of its PHEV powertrain and Nissan is already releasing teaser images, we might not have to wait long before the big reveal happens.
