Remember when Mitsubishi Motors and tech giant Foxconn signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which will see the latter supply the former with a Foxtron-developed EV? Well, that MOU has resulted in a brand new Mitsubishi EV, which will hit the Australian market later this year.

That EV is the Mitsubishi ASX VR-e, and despite using the ASX name, it's essentially a rebadged Foxtron Bria. It's set to enter the Australian market in Q4 2026, although the exact specifications have yet to be revealed by the automaker. Design-wise, however, the Mitsubishi ASX VR-e is quite the stylish EV.

This is due to the fact that the Foxtron Bria/Mitsubishi ASX VR-e were penned by renowned Italian design house Pininfarina. However, the ASX VR-e gets some subtle exterior changes like “MITSUBISHI” lettering on the front fascia, the brand's signature three-diamond logo, and a slightly revised LED light signature. The rest of the exterior, however, largely carries over from the Foxtron-derived design, which includes active grille shutters and an S-duct in the front bumper to redirect air to the hood to reduce drag.

Also worth mentioning is the VR-e designation, which is a callback to the VR-4 nomenclature used in past Mitsubishi models like the Galant. According to Mitsubishi Motors Australia CEO Shunichi Kihara, the ASX VR-e will serve as a significant milestone in the brand's electrification plans in the country and is part of the brand's Momentum 2030 strategy to offer more electrified vehicles.

Last but not least, Mitsubishi has confirmed that there will be four variants of the ASX VR-e for the Australian market: LS, Aspire, Exceed, and GSR. As mentioned earlier, specifications for the upcoming ASX VR-e have yet to be revealed by Mitsubishi. However, a quick look at what Taiwan gets has given us a good idea of what to expect.

The Foxtron Bria is available in three distinct models in Taiwan: Elegant, Emerge, and Pioneer. The Bria Elegant and Emerge variants are both RWD models and are powered by a 57.7 kWh LFP battery that drives a single electric motor that puts out 232 PS. From a standstill, Foxtron claims both variants can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds and can cover up to 516 km on the NEDC cycle.

The most powerful version is the Bria Pioneer, which gets an AWD setup via dual electric motors. The result is total system output of 406 PS and a 0 to 100 km/h sprint time of just 3.9 seconds. It also gets the same 57.7 kWh LFP battery, but gets a lower cruising range of up to 466 km.

The Foxtron Bria supports Type 2 AC 7 kW charging, as well as CCS2 DC charging with up to 134 kW. Foxtron says that when connected to the latter, the Bria can be recharged from 10% to 80% in less than 30 minutes.

Size-wise, the Foxtron Bria measures 4315mm long, 1885mm wide, and 1535mm tall. It also up to 155mm of ground clearance, 18- and 20-inch alloy wheel choices, a 9.2-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment display.

With Australia set to get the Foxtron-based Mitsubishi ASX VR-e later this year, we're curious if the Japanese automaker has any plans to make it available to other markets, including the Philippines.
