It looks like Subaru is not the only automaker suffering from valve spring issues. A week after the Gunma-based automaker issued a global recall, Mazda also announced that they will be recalling about 640,000 models due to defective valve springs on their diesel-powered cars.

The company said that they will be recalling 410,000 units from global markets while the remaining 230,000 vehicles will come from Japan. The only market not affected by the global recall is the United States where Mazda does not offer its diesel engine.

Mazda has not yet announced what particular models (or model years) are affected by the valve spring recall. To date, the company sells diesel variants of the Mazda6, Mazda3, Mazda2, CX-5 and CX-3. The company has also yet to state of which markets are affected by the valve spring fiasco.

If Mazda's recall is the same as with Subaru's, the faulty valve springs found in affected engines could fracture under continued stress. This may result in an unusual noise coming from the engine, or the motor itself stalling and not being able to restart.

Bermaz Auto Philippines Inc, the official distributor of Mazda cars in the country, stated that they are still checking the data to see if there are any models affected locally by the global recall. If ever there are any affected models here in the Philippines, it would most likely be several examples of the Mazda6 Sedan and the CX-5 which can be specified with a 2.2-liter turbo-diesel SkyActiv-D.
