Class 1, 2, and 3 vehicles will have to pay an extra PHP 1, 2, and 3, accordingly

Today November 3, 2023, marks the first tranche of toll fees going up along SLEX. That means motorists will have to shell out extra when using the expressway.

However, it is not only SLEX that will be increasing toll fees today. The Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) has also announced that starting today, a new set of toll fees at the Muntinlupa Cavite Expressway (MCX) will be implemented.

The TRB has granted provisional toll rate adjustments for MCX under the Petitions for Approval of Periodic Toll Rate Adjustments for 2018 and 2020. These were first filed by Ayala Corporation which used to own MCX before the expressway became part of Villar's Prime Asset Ventures Inc. (PAVI) earlier this year.

The provisional toll rate adjustments will be implemented on a staggered basis to curb the existing inflationary situation and minimize the impact on tollway users. As a result, the first tranche will be implemented this year while the second tranche will be put up next year.

From PHP 17 for Class 1 vehicles, motorists must now pay PHP 18 beginning today. Meanwhile, Class 2 motorists must now shell out PHP 37 from the previous PHP 35. Last but not least are the Class 3 vehicles which now have to pay PHP 55 which is an increase of PHP 3.

The new toll rate adjustments were supposed to be implemented as early as July 31, 2023. However, the TRB deferred the immediate implementation as a consideration to the tollway users of MCX.

If you're heading to Muntinlupa or SLEX via MCX today, don't forget that the toll road is now collecting higher toll fees.
