Nissan has achieved a new milestone and proved just how efficient its e-Power technology can be.

The Japanese manufacturer has earned a Guinness World Records title with the Qashqai e-Power, as it posted the longest journey completed by a non-plug-in extended-range electric vehicle SUV without external charging or refueling.

The Qashqai e-Power covered a total distance of 1,980 kilometers on a single tank, travelling from Bogotá to the Caribbean coast in Colombia, which lasted for three days. Every stage of the attempt was independently monitored and verified by Guinness World Records judges, who certified the achievement following a detailed review process.

This latest achievement follows successful long-distance e-Power journeys in the United Kingdom and Australia, particularly the latter where the Qashqai e-Power was able to do over 1,300 kms in the island state of Tasmania.

For context, the Qashqai e-Power uses a combination of an electric motor and a 1.5-liter, three-cylinder VC-Turbo as an onboard generator for its lithium-ion battery. If that sounds familiar, it has a similar setup to the bigger X-Trail e-Power that’s already being offered in the Philippine market.

And yes, unlike plug-in hybrids, the Qashqai’s e-Power system makes it just a self-charging hybrid, eliminating the need for external charging while maintaining the convenience and flexibility of a conventional vehicle.

What makes this feat even more impressive is that Nissan achieved 1,980 kilometers with the Qashqai’s 55-liter fuel tank capacity and just a 2.1 kWh battery. That means the crossover was averaging 36 km/l, or just 2.78 liters per 100 km.
