Earlier this year, Nissan Philippines Inc. (NPI) officially confirmed that it will launch two models that will come from China: the Frontier Pro PHEV pickup and the N7 battery electric vehicle (BEV).

This marks the first time that the Japanese automaker will export vehicles from the People's Republic and is also the first Japanese auto brand in the Philippines to import from China. This signals a shift in the brand's direction when it comes to electrification, as Chinese brands continue to dominate the electrified car market.

Fast forward months later, NPI has been busy making the necessary preparations to launch its upcoming models. This comes after the Nissan N7 has been recognized by the Department of Energy (DOE) as the Nissan Primera EV. That's right, the Japanese automaker is bringing back a familiar name for its upcoming electric sedan.

For those not in the know, the Primera name was used by Nissan for a midsize car that was available in sedan, wagon, and liftback body styles and spanned three generations. Now, Nissan Philippines plans to resurrect the dormant name for its latest BEV.

Based on the DOE listing, the Nissan Primera EV will measure 4930mm long, 1895mm wide, and 1487mm tall. The initial specifications also mentioned it will have a 2915mm wheelbase and a gross vehicle weight of nearly 2,300 kg.

Power-wise, the Primera EV will get a 60 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a single electric motor that delivers 218 PS and 305 Nm of torque to the front wheels. On a full charge, the Primera is rated to cover up to 500 km. Moreover, the electric sedan supports CCS2 charging, which likely means it can be connected to either an AC or a fast DC charging system.

Other key features the Primera EV will have will include 19-inch alloy wheels, full LED headlights & taillights with sequential turn signals, leather upholstery, a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, and ProPilot semi-autonomous driving capability.

With the Nissan Primera EV now on the DOE's list of recognized EVs, it might not be long before the brand officially unveils it. We reckon NPI will make its official debut at the 2026 Philippine International Motor Show, alongside the Frontier Pro PHEV, the refreshed Kicks e-Power, and the X-Trail e-Power.
