Porsche celebrates 50 years of 911 Turbo with special model
Porsche 911 Turbo 50 years celebrates golden anniversary of the first boosted 911

Most people remember 1974 as the year Muhammad Ali knocked out George Foreman at The Rumble in the Jungle, but the same year holds significance especially for car-loving enthusiasts – it was the year when the first boosted Porsche 911 was born.

And hence, Porsche this year is celebrating 50 years of the 911 variant that started life being called the “widowmaker” with its rowdy characteristics, but is now being regarded as one of the nicest all-weather supercars around. Stuttgart calls it the Porsche 911 Turbo 50 Years – a special edition version that’s only limited to 1,974 examples.

The car is basically a standard 992-generation 911 Turbo S, but the exterior is fitted with a special 50th anniversary badge, a vinyl sticker inspired by the original 911 RSR Turbo, and the Turbo-exclusive color called “Turbonite” making its way to the engine cover, fuel tank cap, and the Porsche crest.

When you open the door, the puddle light emits a turbocharger graphic on the ground. That’s just the intro for the 911 Turbo’s interior trimmed with the iconic McKenzie tartan pattern. Turbo 50 logos are found on the headrests, the glove compartment, as well as the analog Porsche Design subsecond clock on the dashboard. To top it off, more Turbonite-colored elements are found in the seat belts, contrast stitching, cabin controls, and the Porsche crest on the steering wheel.

As with the standard 911 Turbo S, the Turbo 50 is powered by a 3.7-liter, flat-six engine with two variable turbine geometry turbos, producing 650 PS and 800 Nm of torque. This takes the Turbo 50 from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds, and 0 to 200 km/h in 8.9 seconds. Shifting is done via the 8-speed Porsche PDK while power management on all four wheels is done by the Porsche Traction Management with torque vectoring.

Porsche will start deliveries of the 911 Turbo 50 at the start of the -BER months. But with only 1,974 units to be distributed globally, units may be a lot more limited if the vehicle makes its way to the country. As to how many, Porsche Philippines is likely to have the answer to that.
