We are all still hoping and praying that Toyota Motor Philippines officially brings in the all-new GR Yaris hot hatchback. While we're still waiting for that day to arrive (assuming it does), it seems we will be able to give the rally-ready road car a spin very soon. Better yet, we won't even have to leave the country to do so. The catch? We'll be driving in the virtual world. Specifically, in Gran Turismo Sport on the PlayStation 4.
Polyphony Digital has announced that the Toyota GR Yaris 1st Edition RZ “High Performance” will soon be available in Gran Turismo Sport. The vehicle is included in the upcoming 'Update 1.62' that will be out on November 13, 2020. At the same time, a new Time Trial mode featuring the GR Yaris will be available to all players around the world. The special time trial event will be held on the fictional dirt circuit Sardegna – Windmills. The rally event will run from the update up until December 13, 2020.
How to get the GR Yaris in the game? Don't worry, the GR Yaris is not a prize car of time attack event. To get the hot hatch, players only have to buy it for 100,000 in-game credits.
They didn't announce whether other vehicles or race tracks will be included in the update coming later this week. We're sure that players of GT Sport will be quite happy even if it is just one vehicle. Prior to Update 1.62, the last GT Sport update that added new cars was nearly six months ago. What about race tracks? Laguna Seca was the last one added into the game, and that was in December 2019.
With the new update, it seems Polyphony Digital isn't done with Gran Turismo Sport just yet. Even with Gran Turismo 7 already in development, they still have new content for the three-year-old game. Hopefully, they surprise us with other content for the November update. Or better yet, maybe TMP will surprise us by announcing that the GR Yaris will be available locally?
